However, the 37-year veteran of the Community Service Council is retiring as Associate Director this spring. During his tenure he spearheaded projects that put a much-needed spotlight on many veteran's issues, brought the 2-1-1 Helpline to life and ensured that fewer of our neighbors would be overwhelmed by the heat through the work of the Tulsa Weather Coalition.
The good news? He will remain as a much-needed resource and defender of veterans issues on a more part-time basis.

Blue Star Mothers Have a New Downtown Office
Community Service Council and Blue Star Mothers share the honor of supporting our veterans for 75 years, and now relocation to a first-floor site in the Sunoco Building is raising the Blue Star Mother's profile and increasing their efficiency in handling donations.

CSC's BRRX4VETS Teams Up with Aspen Dental to Provide Free Dental Care for Veterans
BRRX4VETS, a program of the Community Service Council, is identifying veterans who will receive free dental care during MouthMobile, a community-giving event on Tuesday, March 28th, where dentists and team members will be delivering free dental care to veterans in need.
Battle Buddies Oklahoma is a DAV sponsored program for incarcerated veterans. Representatives from Battle Buddies visit the prisons several times during the year and we encourage the formation of veteran groups inside the prison, with the approval of the warden, who meet at least monthly and decide on projects that will help themselves and the community.
Veteran Creates App Called Barracks for Oklahoma Veterans
A new Android app being made available at no cost for Eastern Oklahoma area veterans (Muskogee focus for now) will plug them into practically every resource they could need or want. The Barracks is the brainchild of Army veteran Victor Lezama. The app includes direct access to a crisis hotline, assistance with medical claims, job-assistance programs, housing information, recreation and veteran discounts.

New VA Secretary Wants Enhanced Mental Health Coverage for Veterans with "Other Than Honorable" Discharge
Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary Dr. David J. Shulkin recently announced his intention to expand provisions for urgent mental health care needs to former service members with other-than-honorable (OTH) administrative discharges. This move marks the first time a VA Secretary has implemented an initiative specifically focused on expanding access to assist former OTH service members who are in mental health distress and may be at risk for suicide or other adverse behaviors.
