2017 Test of Engineering Aptitude, Mathematics and Science (TEAMS) Competition Held Last Week

The PVHS team consisted of Tommy Alexander, Kevin Crump, Davis Moore, Austin Nash, Brandon Nash, Matt Solomon, Adam Vuilleumier and Jonathan Wang.   By participating in TEAMS, these students get the opportunity to use math and science skills to solve real-world engineering problems.

The theme for this year's competition was "Engineering and the Environment" where we explored eight topics including Biometrics, Smart Car Technology, Engineering Closed Systems, Modifying Metro/Solar Solutions, Water Treatment, Global Climate Change, Residential Solar, and Geothermal Heat Pumps.  Each student was responsible for presenting to the team an overview on each topic. Tackling these challenges requires critical skills such as collaboration, analytical thinking, and multidimensional problem-solving.

The competition this year included a 1,000-word essay submitted prior to the competition date, a 90-minute, 80 question multiple choice test equally divided among the 8 topics, followed by a hands-on design challenge using common office supplies.

The team is still awaiting this year's results, but we are so proud of their hard work and efforts.

MUSICAL HIT 'PIPPIN' SET TO TAKE THE STAGE AT PV HIGH

One of the most-performed and beloved musicals in theater history, PIPPIN, will be presented by the Palos Verdes High School Drama Department for eight performances April 14-23. Heir to the Frankish thrown, the young prince Pippin is in search of the secret to true happiness and fulfillment. He seeks it in the glories of the battlefield, the temptations of the flesh, and the intrigues of political power. In the end, though, Pippin finds that happiness lies not in the extraordinary endeavors, but rather in the un-extraordinary moments that happen every day. With an unforgettable score from the four-time Grammy-winner, three-time Oscar-winner, and musical theatre giant Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, Godspell, Children of Eden), PIPPIN promises to entertain.
Performances are April 14-15 and 21-22 at 7:00pm, April 15, 22-23 at 2:00pm, and April 20 at 3:30pm in the MPR at Palos Verdes High School, 600 Cloyden Road in Palos Verdes Estates.
The production is recommended for ages 13 and over.
Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for students.  Tickets can be purchased at www.pvhsdrama.com or at the door if seats are still available. For further information, visit the website, or call (310) 378-8471, ext. 237

PVHS Arts, Academics, and Athletic Programs:  Improved Dance Facilities Fundraiser 2017

Let's come together as a community! Four hundred PVHS students, including those in Choreo, Song, Cheer, Intermediate Dance, Musical Theater, Drama, Jazz Band, Color Guard, Yoga, P.E. Dance, school clubs, and various academic programs utilize the dance facilities every day for training, preparation, and education. Rehearsals for pep rallies, shows, sports, and theatrical productions are also held in the dance facilities.

PVHS requires updated, properly sprung dance floors to ensure a safe and appropriate training environment. The sprung floors will help decrease injuries resulting from the poor condition of our existing floors which were installed in 1961. The estimated cost to upgrade the facilities is $60,000.00 and our goal is to complete this project no later than July 2017.

The PVHS Booster Club has generously contributed $12,500.00 with an additional $30,000.00 from the District and School Site Funds. $2,500.00 has been raised to date, and an additional $15,000.00 must still be raised to support this project. To reach our fundraising goal, we would appreciate $100.00 or more per family, but any donation will make a difference. Thank you for making great things happen at PVHS!
