Innovation Grants
The Department of For-Hire Vehicles has an exciting new competitive grant program that I'm delighted to announce. We are soliciting applications from those with current DFHV operating authority to participate in pilot projects and partnership programs aimed at improving transportation equity, expanding economic opportunities, solving problems within the taxicab industry, and fostering innovation. We believe there are lots of good ideas that are worth consideration and we know there are smart people that just need a little support.
The DFHV Innovation Grant Program is another step to support the efforts to ensure citizens and visitors of the District of Columbia have safe, affordable, and accessible transportation options. DFHV under the leadership of Mayor Bowser's administration remains committed to investing in pathways to the middle class. Our goal for this innovation grant program is to help for-hire entrepreneurs create and grow their business in the City. The various funding opportunities include school transportation, non-emergency medical transportation, electric vehicles, wheelchair accessible vehicles, and other innovative programs that may be developed.

EV Education Seminar March 31 |
The Department of For-Hire Vehicles is supporting the initiative of the Bowser Administration to make Washington, DC among the most energy efficient, clean and sustainable "green" cities in the world. As such, DFHV has offered grants to encourage the transition from gas guzzlers to electric vehicles (EVs).
With almost 150 EVs currently in the District's fleet, DFHV is partnering with the Department of Energy & Environment and Nissan to conduct an educational seminar. Vehicle owners will gain insight about charging techniques, battery life, best operating practices, and future grant funding. In addition, Nissan will have the popular Leaf model on display.
The EV Education Seminar is scheduled on Friday, March 31 at 11:00 am. It will be held in the Second Floor Hearing Room of DFHV at 2235 Shannon Place, SE.

Ward 4 Community Meeting
Ward 4 Councilmember Brandon Todd is co-hosting a community meeting with the For-Hire Vehicles Advisory Council. The meeting will take place at the Emery Heights Community Center,
5701 Georgia Ave, NW, Room 200, from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, March 29th, 2017.
The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the current status of taxis, private vehicles for hire, and the Ward 4 Neighborhood Ride Service (NRS) shuttle. This opportunity for public engagement will allow the Advisory Council to receive feedback from the community. Ward 4 residents can voice any concerns and/or suggestions to the Advisory Council. In addition, DFHV Director Ernest Chrappah will be present to answer questions and institute the appropriate follow up on behalf of the agency.
DC Taxi Operators Association
DFHV Director Ernest Chrappah was invited to speak to the members of the DC Taxi Operators Association on March 4. The meeting was attended by close to 100 drivers who were reminded that DFHV has established enhanced due process rights for drivers through the Vehicle Inspection Officer Complaint Process and the Ombudsman Mediation Program to resolve various conflicts arising within the for-hire industry. Other topics included grants to support obtaining electric and wheelchair accessible vehicles; reducing equipment and operating costs; creating new pilot programs (i.e., Transport DC, NRS, on-demand delivery); and the rewrite of Title 31 to reduce the burden of regulations on operators. The questions regarding the return of H-tags to those who previously surrendered them have been resolved through the Administrative Issuance 2017-02 and drivers were advised of the process to follow.

Online Business Portal for Drivers and Companies
Are you curious about the status of your applications? Or maybe you would like to know the status of your One-Stop form?
DFHV has implemented the
Online Business Portal to enable
drivers and
companies to review the status of applications, including vehicle registrations, One-Stop forms, licenses and cases. Companies can now manage and report changes to their vehicle inventory. The capability to submit ALL forms online will soon be introduced to enhance efficiency as
DFHV continues to support data transparency and visibility.

All owners and operators licensed by or registered with the Department of For-Hire Vehicles are required to maintain their current contact information on file which must include a current mailing address, phone number and email address. Client Services will not conduct a transaction without verification.
