Kimberly Long exonerated after 7 years in prison
On Oct. 6, 2003, Kimberly Long arrived at her Corona home to find her boyfriend bludgeoned to death. Blood was sprayed all over the couple's living room, and he had been dead for quite some time.
She arrested, convicted and was sentenced to 15 years to life.
Eight months ago, after serving seven years, Long was exonerated thanks to the help of the California Innocence Project with the California Western School of Law.
"A wrongful conviction can happen to anybody, even those in this room," Long said while sharing her story with a roomful of local attorneys as well as students from Amistad High School, and law students at the California Desert Trial Academy College of Law.
The California Innocence Project has freed many innocent people from prison, trained hundreds of outstanding law students who have gone on to become excellent attorneys, and changed multiple California laws to improve the justice system.
