Passing the point of no return

Jude: A slave of Jesus Christ

Every kind of precious stone
The apostle John notes in Rev. 21:19-20 that the foundation of the New Jerusalem is adorned with every kind of precious stone. What's the significance of these gems? And are we to take John's depiction literally or metaphorically?
I did not see a sanctuary
In Rev. 21:22, John writes of the New Jerusalem, "I did not see a sanctuary in it, because the Lord God the Almighty and the Lamb are its sanctuary." The earthly tent of meeting, the tabernacle, and the temple all are types and shadows of what believers experience when they see God face to face one day.
