Get to Know Your Committee Members:
In January we began introducing our new Zone 8 Committee Members. They are already working hard for the zone. Take a minute to get to know committee member Cindy Cruciotti:

Cindy Cruciotti, of Elizabeth, Colorado,  has been riding since she was 15 years old and turned professional when she was 19. She owns and operates Serenity Farm and travels throughout the country and Europe competing with her students. She has been involved on other USHJA committees in addition to the zone committee. As a committee member she wants to share her experiences and use what she has learned to help the zone grow and help members be better educated. Her other hobbies include camping and hiking with her family and dogs. If she could have dinner with any equestrian she would choose Kelli Clevenger, her associate whom she admires and enjoys eating dinner with regularly.

Michael Henaghan Clinic a Success
Riders participate in Michael Henaghan clinic. Photo provided by Betsy Checchia.

Riders from Arizona, Colorado and Nebraska participated in the Arizona Hunter Jumper Association's 2017 clinic with Michael Henaghan February 4-5 during Horse Shows in the Sun in Tucson. The clinic was supported by USHJA Zone 8.

Henaghan worked with participants on the flat, without stirrups, over gymnastics exercises, and through courses, challenging their pace and steering skills as well as working on their position.

"I was really impressed with Mike's positive attitude with all the riders," Betsy Checchia, clinic organizer and Zone 8 Committee Member, said. "When riders had trouble, he was pleasant and encouraging, and I think that made riders relax and try harder. Mike has an obvious ability to quickly evaluate what each horse and rider needed to improve on, and a variety of exercises ready to go to work toward that improvement. I'm pretty sure every horse and rider learned something useful - I just wish I had been able to ride in the clinic myself."

Special thanks to the sponsors of the clinic including HITS Horse Shows for providing the ring, jumps, jump crew and free stalls for clinic participants and to Zone 8 for lowering the cost for riders and providing free auditing. AHJA plans to continue to host this annual clinic in Tucson. Stay tuned for more information.  Read more
