While we celebrate fantastic competition and great riders at the FEI World Cup Finals in Omaha, Nebraska, it's important we remember to look to the future of our sport as well. So far this year, we have heard a lot of proactive discussion about how to continue evolving the sport we love so much. We remind all of our Zone 10 members to get involved! Whether it's volunteering your time on a committee, attending a town hall, voting for or nominating someone you think can make a positive difference in the sport, or talking to zone committee members like us, you can make your voice heard and help shape the future of show jumping, hunters, and equitation.

Zone 10 Riders Headed to FEI World Cup Finals
|
|
Congratulations to our Zone 10 riders headed to the FEI World Cup Finals (March 29-April 2) in Omaha, Nebraska!
Jamie Barge, Karl Cook, Audrey Coulter, Jenni Martin-McAllister
and
Nayel Nassar
are all slated to compete.
Karl placed second in the overall rankings and takes his third trip to the FEI World Cup Finals, this year with Tembla (Signe Ostby, owner).
Jenni and LEGIS Touch the Sun (LEGISequine.com, owner) earned the blue ribbon in the $132,000 Longines FEI World Cup Jumping Calgary last October and have consistently placed well throughout the season. Jenni previously competed in the World Cup Finals in 2014.
Jamie makes her World Cup Finals debut after she and Luebbo (Kylie Co., owner) steadily rode to top placings in competitive classes at the Longines LA Masters, HITS Coachella Desert Circuit, and Las Vegas National.
California native, Audrey Coulter, qualified through the East Coast League after competing all over the world in Spain, Canada, and France, as well as in Florida, Kentucky, and California. Audrey returns to the World Cup Finals after her debut last year, hoping to earn a top placing with Alex (Copernicus Stables, LLC., owner).
Though Nayel Nassar (EGY) rides all over the country, his current home base is in San Diego, Calif. After a phenomenal season with his longtime mount Lordan, Nayel finished at the top of the rankings for the FEI North American West Coast League. This will be his and Lordan's third trip to the World Cup Finals, having previously competed in 2013 and 2014.

Two Emerging Athletes Program Regional Training Sessions are coming to Zone 10!
The
July 12-16 session will be at Los Angeles Equestrian Center in Burbank, California, featuring clinician Joe Fargis and stable manager Anne Thornbury, and the
July 19-23 session will be at Sonoma Horse Park in Petaluma, California, with clinician Geoff Teall and stable manager Nanci Snyder! To participate in these sessions or any of the late summer training sessions, apply
by May 5. The deadline for early summer training sessions is
April 17.

Mandy Porter Tops AIG $1 Million Grand Prix
|
|
It was quite a duel in the desert with over 50 horse and rider combinations vying for the blue ribbon in the AIG $1 Million Grand Prix, the finale to the popular HITS Coachella Desert Circuit.
Though the height was lowered to 1.50m this year, the competition was just as fierce with top riders traveling to Thermal, CA for a chance at the significant prize money.
This year, it was Zone 10 rider Mandy Porter (USA) who came out on top with Milano (Abigail Weese, owner). The pair had already shown they were in top form at HITS Coachella, winning the $36,500 Desert Classic, the $25,000 SmartPak Grand Prix, and the $75,000 Horseware Ireland Grand Prix.
Their success continued when they went clear in the AIG $1 Million Grand Prix, joining just five other riders in the jump off. The course, set by Alan Wade, stymied many riders with its technicality, with rails dropping often at the final combination.
Mandy and Milano went double clear and held onto the top spot. Tamie Phillips (CAN) and Cian O'Connor (IRE) also went double clear but just a little slower, earning second and third, respectively. Zone 10's Eric Navet took fifth place on Catypso (owned by Signe Ostby), a
mateur rider and Zone 10 Young Rider alumna
Uma O'Neill
(Ray Texel, trainer) had a clear first round aboard her Clockwise of Greenhill Z and joined the other professional riders in the jump off, earning sixth place overall. Zone 10's Katie Harris earned seventh place aboard her Lafino 4 and Peter Petschenig was eighth aboard his Saint Quentin. Mandy also earned ninth place aboard Coral Reef Follow Me II (owned by Coral Reef Ranch).
Congratulations to Mandy and Milano, and we hope to see more of them as they continue to represent Zone 10 at local and international competitions!

Hunter Riders: Don't Miss This Team Championship Experience!

The USHJA Children's and Adult Amateur Hunter Regional Championships, presented by SmartPak, for the West Region (Zones 8, 9, 10, 11 & 12) will be July 18-23 at Oregon High Desert Classic I in Bend, Oregon.
To attend the Championships this year:
- Apply online at www.ushja.org/chaahunter by May 1
- Continue competing to earn points toward qualifying until 60 days prior to your competition
- Check out the specifications and ensure you meet all other criteria (Please note: Riders may not compete in a class that exceeds 3'3" during the qualifying period (Exception: riders may compete in the USHJA National Hunter Derby and the Children's or Adult Amateur Jumper sections during the qualifying period)
Each rider's Championship costs will be offset by a minimum of $100 paid by the rider's USHJA Zone.

The USHJA Zones 9 & 10 Zone Jumper Championships will be November 10-12 at National Sunshine Series II in Thermal, California.
Mark your calendars, review the
specifications, and make sure to get your rider
applications in by
May 1!
Earn a minimum of 20 points ($20 money-won) by June 1 to be eligible to qualify for the championships.
Each rider's Championship costs will be offset by a minimum of $75 paid by the rider's USHJA Zone.
