Mike Sheffield
is a clinical psychologist who offers personal coaching and therapy. One of his passions is to be a guide to the inner journey. He does this using a process he calls self-mapping. Rooted in depth psychology, gestalt psychology, and ecopsychology, the self-mapping process approaches the psyche as an ecosystem, with diverse inter-related parts that belong together. The process involves identifying innate parts of self and exploring their relationships to each other as well as to archetypal patterns. Discovery is facilitated through various activities such as dream work, deep imagery, voice dialogue, poetry, stories and myths, dreamwalks in nature, and various forms of creative expression, including art, collage, writing, music, and movement. The embodiment of what is discovered about the self is facilitated by activating energies in the body, cultivating inner resources, and translating one's unique gifts into soulful action.
The self-mapping process can be applied to many particular questions or themes. Some specialized areas of focus include life vision, health and healing, creativity, and the relationship between nature and soul. This work is very individualized, depending on a person's interests and current needs. Although it begins with individual exploration, self-mapping also offers a powerful way to work with couples, families, and groups.
Mike is also a singer-songwriter, pianist, poet and writer. His love of creating and of nature inform his work with people.
