RECOGNIZING FRAUD TOOLKIT

The Alberta Council on Aging's Recognizing Fraud Toolkit is designed to raise awareness about fraudulent activities. It should be used as a guideline to help seniors, their families and the general public know what types of scams are occurring and what strategies they can use to make good decisions regarding scams and fraud. The goal of the program is to reduce senior's vulnerability to fraud and financial abuse.
WHITE PAPER ON AGING IN CANADA

As Canada's population ages, we are challenged to find better ways of caring for and supporting older adults across the continuum of care. Following the 2016 Walk with Me conference in Edmonton, culture change leaders from across Canada, the United States and Australia took part in a think tank to discuss what we're up against and how we can start moving forward. The white paper " Living Fully: Next steps for the Canadian culture change movement" summarizes the proceedings as well as:
  • Explains why "living fully" should be the goal of the movement, rather than "aging well"
  • Defines culture change and makes recommendations for its advancement in Canada
  • Summarizes next steps, including delivering the 3rd Walk with Me conference in Niagara Falls, ON, March 5-6, 2018 and much more

2017 PHYSICAL ACTIVITY FORUM
Alberta Centre for Active Living
May 8,9 a.m. - noon
Edmonton

There are many messages about physical activity, exercise, and fitness. Yet, the multiple, and sometimes conflicting, messages influence people's thoughts and behaviours, even when they are not thought about very much. The emotional nature of automatic responses can influence decisions to be active that are quite different from more reasoned and thoughtful responses.

The topic for the 2017 Physical Activity Forum is "Don't Overthink It! Promoting physical activity in a busy media environment". Dr. Tanya Berry, Tier II Canada Research Chair in Physical Activity Promotion, will give an overview of how messages about physical activity might have an influence at both automatic and reasoned levels, and what effective messages might look like.
BECOMING A NETWORKED NONPROFIT: DIGITAL STRATEGIES TO ENHANCE YOUR ONLINE PRESENCE
Edmonton Chamber of Voluntary Organizations (ECVO)
May 10, 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
Location: Fantasy Land Hotel
$70-95

Networked Nonprofits and the people who lead them are taking advantage of social media's ability to facilitate and expand their impact by connecting, building, and establishing trust with people in their networks. This way of operating goes beyond simply using tools like Facebook, Twitter, or Snapchat and requires a networked mindset where openness and authenticity are essential. This interactive workshop, featuring Beth Kanter, will explore how nonprofits can embrace the best practices of a "networked nonprofit," avoiding some of the pitfalls and challenges.

Organizations also have many questions about how to make the best use of social media to advance their work, especially with limited time and resources. Participants will learn how to create a digital strategy for social media, using the best practices for engagement, content, and champions.

Due to the availability of alternative frozen meal services and ongoing challenges with the costs of operating Sage Savories, they have decided to end the program as of April 30, 2017. Sage is committed to ensuring that their customers are supported in their transition to alternative frozen meal options.
