Showcase Over 40 Pasadena-area Young Musicians

PASADENA, CA - The Pasadena Educational Foundation (PEF) is excited to announce that Brian and Nikki from Silversun Pickups will perform a special acoustic show at the inaugural ROCK 4 PEF benefit music festival beginning at 4PM on Sunday, October 5, at the Farnsworth Park Amphitheater. This extraordinary evening of music will also feature Pasadena homegrown favorite Ozma. America's Got Talent's Taylor Mathews, the soulful Melissa Polinar, and will introduce the winner of the area-wide teen Battle of the Bands. TV's Malcolm in the Middle star Jane Kaczmarek, who is also a PEF Board member, will join the star-studded line up on October 5 to help support music education programs in our local public schools.

"Music and the arts expand the boundaries of our imagination, enhance our lives, and help us define ourselves," said Jane Kaczmarek. "Music programs in our schools are a vital and essential part of our educational experiences and I am thrilled to support these programs in our community public schools through the Pasadena Educational Foundation."

Leading up to the ROCK 4 PEF music festival, over 40 Pasadena-area kids and teens-- from 12 different bands -- have been competing in a Battle of the Bands to win a recording session at Crown City Studios, professionally designed band artwork from The CRP Group, and the opportunity to perform -- before Brian and Nikki from Silversun Pickups -- at the ROCK 4 PEF music festival. The first stage of the competition was an online voting campaign that received almost 4,000 online votes and included a special panel of judges representing many facets of the music industry.

The final stage of the Battle of the Bands competition will be a live concert on Sunday, September 21 beginning at 2PM at Levitt Pavilion in Old Pasadena and will be hosted by comedian and NBC's About a Boy star, Al Madrigal. The concert will feature all 12 local bands with the top six finalists competing before a panel of judges featuring musicians, radio personalities, and music industry professionals. This is a free community event.
