How far are you willing to step outside your comfort zone?

This is a question I had to seriously consider when I was asked to support the Center for the Arts by participating in the second annual Dancing with our Stars.

Rather than a "step", it was more like a "cliff dive" out of my comfort zone. Though I tend toward athletic activities, dancing has never been in the mix. I am the perpetual wall flower who admires others dancing, but have not done so myself.

However, I believe in supporting the arts and am actively involved at the CCAE. And, the DWOS event is April 1, thus, I was willing to be a "fool for the arts"! Thankfully, my professional partner, Domonique from the Escondido Arthur Murray Dance Studio has been gracious and tough, teaching me some fancy foot work!

There are nine other teams performing this Saturday night, all of whom have invested countless hours in preparation and fund raising.

I hope you are joining us. Bring your dancing shoes for the People's Choice awards in the Lyric Court.

See you Saturday!

Sincerely,

Rorie Johnston

The bad news for renters is rent keeps going up. The good news is the increases have slowed considerably.  Average rent reached $1,748 a month in San Diego County at the start of March, increasing 8 percent in a year, said MarketPointe Realty Advisers  in a report released Monday.  Despite the big yearly jump, the average rent rose just $5 a month in the last six months, or 0.29 percent.  It's unclear how important the modest increase is. On the surface, it would appear rent finally got too high. But, the report's author says that's probably not the whole story.
