Library Extension for Chrome checks on the availability of titles at your local library as you search websites like Amazon, Goodreads, Google Books, Barnes and Noble, and more.

We Like Movies Too!
Each year, the Librarian of Congress selects 25 films to be included on the National Film Registry. The films chosen show the range and diversity of American film heritage in order to increase awareness for their preservation.
With this year's selection, the list has topped 700 and includes movies like "The Breakfast Club" and "Blackboard Jungle."
Did you know that you could submit your recommendations for movies to be included?

Inaugural Issue Available
JNL is a diamond Open Access model journal that accepts articles on library practice of all types and is always accepting articles.

This is not Fake News
While this comes as no surprise to anyone who teaches information literacy, the recent uptick in interest presents a fantastic opportunity to explore methods to help library patrons identify fake news sources. Programming Librarian offers a recorded webinar on the topic.

On March 1st, over 800 library supporters converged on the Capital City to remind our regional legislators that libraries need their support now more than ever.
Collectively we held meetings with over 60% of the members of the New York State Legislature!
There is no time like the present to remind our elected officials
that state library aid must be treated fairly and equitably. NYLA has a variety of tools available to help you get involved.

CDLC has made some significant updates to the Direct Access Program - around since 1974- and we're excited to roll out these updates.
DAP remains an important part of resource sharing in the CDLC area and we feel confident that the changes we have made will not only facilitate communication amongst our participating libraries but will clarify the responsibilities of the parties involved, thus enhancing this valued CDLC service.

Collection Highlight:
New York State Veteran Oral History Collection
The Oral History Subcollection at the New York State Military Museum, in Saratoga Springs, comprises over 2,100 interviews of veterans and civilians. The veteran interviews range from World War I up until the early 21st century. All branches of the military are represented: the Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marines, Merchant Marine, and Navy. Interviews were also conducted with service members from other countries including the United Kingdom, Canada, Germany, Hungary, and Poland. Interviews were conducted by the Military Museum and community partners.
New York Heritage Digital Collections is a research portal for students, educators, historians, genealogists, and everyone else interested in the people, places and institutions of historical New York State.
So far, CDLC members have added over 23,000 items to the database.

Fifteen small U.S. public libraries have been selected to participate in the 'Small Libraries Create Smart Spaces' project led by OCLC in partnership with the
Association for Rural and Small Libraries (ARSL).
"These libraries were chosen based on a well-articulated understanding of their communities, commitment to championing economic and educational success, and an enthusiasm for bringing the voice of community members to their planning process," said Sharon Streams, Director,
WebJunction.

East Greenbush Staff Member Wins Award
Lisa Warner of
East Greenbush Community Library was awarded the Capital Area Library Assistants (CALA) Outstanding Service Award for 2016.
In her letter of nomination, Lisa was characterized as "someone with a positive attitude who has been an inspiration to colleagues and patrons alike, always willing to help others learn and grow."
It should also be noted that Lisa does good work in the broader community through her involvement with NYLA Advocacy, the American Cancer Society and by promoting awareness
for traumatic
brain injury

Empire State College is Exemplary
SUNY's Empire State College was noted for providing exemplary tutorials in a
Survey of Best Practices in Developing Online Information Literacy Tutorials, 2017 Edition, ISBN 9781574404302, published

Recently,
Ann Wemple-Person, local history librarian at the
Guilderland Public Library, a member of the
Upper Hudson Library System, was approved to become the new
Guilderland Town Historian.

University at Albany to Digitize Collection thanks to CLIR Grant
The Council on Library and Information Resources (CLIR) is providing funding to
The University at Albany to create the
Digital Archive of Executions in the United States, 1608-2002: Digitization and Access to the M. Watt Espy Papers.
The project will digitize a portion of the M. Watt Espy Papers and will be full text searchable through a freely accessible online database. The project will increase access for those interested in history, political science, criminal justice, sociology or law.

Researching the Empire State Writing Competition
is meant to encourage original research and publication around cultural, social, and political topics of New York history utilizing the digital collections developed by the Empire State Library Network:

New York Heritage
, as well as by use of New York's many other scholarly resources.
Empire State Library Network is partnering with the
New York Archives Conference
in developing this competition.

CNAP Supplies Program

The
NYSCA/GHHN Collection Needs Assessment Program (CNAP)
is a
new program which
provides opportunities across New York State.
Applicants who have consulted with an appropriate professional may request funds to purchase collections management supplies, including: storage boxes, acid-free tissue paper, artifact trays, dividers, UV filtering film, Tyvek sheeting, tape, tags, labels, and environmental monitors.
Applications will be accepted from chartered nonprofit museums, historical organizations or other cultural institutions either incorporated in or registered to do business in NYS, that own, care for and exhibit collections to the public.

Leadership Institute for Academic Library Managers
Registration is open for
Siena College's
4th Annual Leadership Institute for Academic Library Managers which runs from
Sunday, July 30th through Friday, August 4th.
This is an intensive immersion experience of the principles and best practices of management applied to academic library settings through readings, discussion, group work, and exercises. It is seminar style with a limit of 18 persons and is designed to give individuals an opportunity to develop management skills to become more effective and to prepare to advance in academic library administration.
