Preserve the White Oak Tree

I think I shall never see a poem lovely as a tree... only God can make a tree, by Joyce Kilmer from " Trees ," 1914.  Habersham is blessed to be home to Georgia's oldest White Oak tree and one of the top 10 oldest White Oaks in the United States.  Therefore, it is incumbent upon the residents of Habersham County to preserve and protect this tree.

A group of committed residents led by Stacy Hall, Habersham County Commissioner for District One, (the district that is home to the White Oak) has created The Committee for Preservation of Georgia's Oldest White Oak.  The tree is in the yard of Habersham's newest fire station located on the corner of Orchard Road and Bear Gap Road.  Special care was taken to preserve the tree during the 2016 building of Fire Station #17; and according to Certified Arborist John Shearouse, the tree was not damaged during the construction.  According to Shearouse, this majestic White Oak is between 330 and 400 years old and measures a 66-inch DBH (diameter at breast height).  Its canopy spread is 136 feet, and this giant was an acorn around 1670.  Shearouse says the tree could live another 50 to 100 years if protected.

Understanding The New I-9 Form & Immigration Compliance
Tuesday, April 18, 2017     |     9:00-10:00 a.m.

Many employers see Form I-9 as a simple and routine part of the hiring process- until they undergo a federal audit and are hit with major fines for unintentional mistakes. USCIS reports that 76% of paper I-9 Forms contain an error that could result in a fine.  The introduction of a new Form I-9, and an anticipated increase in workplace inspections creates a situation that could have costly ramifications for employers.
