UNITE INDY partners with individuals, suburban churches, business leaders, and public officials to mobilize resources to support urban churches, ministries & charities struggling to help those in need.
Butler Prof's youth empowerment initiative
got a start at the UNITE INDY office last week where our staff members and representatives of some leading youth- assistance organizations joined the discussion about ways to empower youth - especially those who have witnessed or fear violence. Last year Professor Stephanie Fernhaber also developed a program to join food banks and pantries in an effort to support the areas of dire need. United in purpose, the conversation was enlightening and encouraging for all.
Breakfast with Rev. Fitzhugh Lyons'
Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance near 25th and Keystone is not for those watching their cholesterol intake. UNITE INDY attends monthly to strengthen ties with those doing important work in our inner city churches and ministries. Along with local news and views, Deputy Mayor Dr. David Hampton (left), updated us all on the latest findings in the case of the police shooting of Aaron Bailey. For information on IMA membership, see below!
Engage Indiana promotes caring businesses
and awards those that are a force for good in our city. The idea was conceived by Chris Cotterill (right) two years ago, and developed in conjunction with the Indianapolis Business Journal. Five hundred plus attended the event that promotes volunteerism in the corporate community as it establishes our state as a national leader in corporate social responsibility. (Yes, Chris is our son... and we're proud of him!)
These dead fish represent our dying
ministries. The lake is Indianapolis, and the ministries are perishing for lack of funding. The self support-raising model used by most churches and ministries may work in the suburbs, but in economically-challenged areas it fails because self-support doesn't work in poor areas. It's time to start saving our inner city churches and ministries.
