Last Day of School
March 15, 2017

Dear St. Francis of Assisi Catholic School Families,

The annual Auction Gala is the largest fundraising event of the school year, bringing families together for an evening of fun and fundraising.  By the end of the night, I feel exhausted, but extremely grateful and humbled. The feelings of fatigue are easy to explain.  It takes months of planning and the days leading up to the event are long, packed with lengthy "to do" lists. Volunteers arrive early Saturday morning and work all day setting up the silent auction items and the dinner ballroom.  The next wave of support arrives in the early afternoon to set up the technical apparatus, and another group arrives in time to add the final touches, get changed, and run the event. The final phase, breaking down the event, ran late into the night and continued the next day.

Anyone who has volunteered on a project is familiar with the effort required to plan and execute a major fundraising event. The Auction Gala, like all St. Francis fundraising events, is directed entirely by volunteers. The behind the scenes work starts in the spring, picks up speed in the fall, and hits full stride in December.  The event requires strong leadership supported by committed chairs and a cadre of parents who shared their time and talents. Aside from a few glitches, the event ran smoothly due to excellent planning, preparation, and execution. Their work led to a hugely successful event attended by over 300 guests who enjoyed an evening of one-of-a-kind silent and oral auction opportunities, dinner, and dancing.

In addition to a fun-filled night with family and friends, the Auction Gala is the largest and most financially important fundraising event of the school year.  I am pleased to report that the Auction Gala exceeded budget expectations, netting over $143,000.  The Moonlight Masquerade Auction Gala, Fall Fest, and Mixed Bag fundraisers combine to generate funds that support the operational budget as well as provide support for school programs that directly impact your child's education. Over the last five years, fundraising revenues have supported our music program, technology initiatives, and enhanced school security.  This year, your generous support will transform our library and technology lab to better meet the needs of our 21st century learners.

Parents, I am grateful and humbled by your generous support for our fundraising programs.  Your financial backing allows us to sustain and grow programs that provide an excellent faith-filled whole child education for all of our children.  In particular, I am most grateful to the parents, grandparents, and guardians, who volunteered their time and talent to serve on committees and create the class projects.  Without your tireless and dedicated service, our community building events and fundraising efforts are simply not possible. Please join me in thanking the following parents and staff who stepped up and gave their time, talent, and treasure to provide an incredible night at the Moonlight Masquerade Auction Gala:

Co-Chairs :  Michelle Manzella and Cristen Durham.
Committee Chairs :  Meichele Cary, Nicole Simmons, Tawna Khamo, Nicole Brown, Karen Carlos, Robert Pechkis, Filippa Sciabica, Tricia Darling, Suzie Reeb, Sherry Shandra, Stacey Cleboski, Luciana Queiroz, Jen Bush, Jayme Beck.

Parent event support:  Amanda Simms, Michelle Leo, Elisa Fowler, Alicia Giordano, Kim Garrido, Marissa and Guillermo Almeida, Karyn Thompson, Karyn Mendoza, Lindsey Campbell, Mark Givenrod, Viviana and Ryan Dewhirst, Elsie Lorenz, Wayne Navarro.

Teacher Appreciation Week 2017
Plans for Teacher Appreciation Week 2017 are underway! This special week takes place May 15-19 at SFA this year. We expect the week to be a memorable one for our teachers and staff. In order to make it happen we rely on our annual collection of a voluntary $10 donation per child to cover expenses for the week.

The week's expenses include: decorations, meals, the Appreciation Luncheon and the purchase of a special gift for all teachers, staff and administration. A copy of the attached form is going home in this week's Thursday folder. Please complete it and return it with your donation by  Wednesday, April 12.  You may send in cash or check (payable to St. Francis of Assisi School). If you have more than one child at the school, you may write one check per family. Please include your children's names and classes on the form.

If this is your first Teacher Appreciation Week at St. Francis, it is a wonderful week where we shower our teachers, staff and administration with food, flowers and love. Each class has a representative to oversee your classroom volunteers and activities for the week. Parent participation is encouraged as more hands make light work. It's the best way to earn service hours for the coming school year! Any questions regarding TAW can be directed to Tracy Foye.

Attention all 7th Grade Boys!
Servite Pre High School Placement Test
The "Pre-HSPT" is designed to benefit 7th grade students by allowing them to practice a scaled version of the Entrance Exam prior to the official admissions process in January, 2018. It is especially valuable in identifying areas that may need some work. Depending on results and interest, Servite may follow-up the Pre-HSPT with enrichment offerings during the summer in order to assist students in preparing for the rigors of high school coursework.

We will be administering Scholastic Testing Service's PHSPT on  Saturday, April 29, from 8:00 am. - 12:00 pm and results will be distributed and explained at our HSPT Information Night on  Tuesday, May 16, at 7:00 pm in the Servite Theater.

A fee of $25 covers the cost of test administration, scoring, and a snack on the day of the exam.   Click HERE to register.   (Please note that results are not used for admissions purposes for the 2018-2019 school year.)
