A MESSAGE FROM THE HEAD OF SCHOOL

Accreditation Visiting Team Applauds the Husky Family

The Visiting Committee for RHP's CAIS/WASC accreditation gave its oral report on Wednesday afternoon, after spending three days interviewing trustees, parents, teachers, staff, and students. They declared that we are living our mission at a very high level on a daily basis and that "this is just the sort of school I would send my own children to if I lived here."

Honors and high honors were given in the areas of Mission, Educational Program, Student Learning, Faculty and Pedagogy, School Climate and Community, Admission, Human Resources, Facilities, Health, Safety and Wellness, Governance, Administration, and Self-Assessment. Where would they like to see us grow? Enrollment and fundraising: exactly as we ourselves wish and intend.

The Committee agreed wholeheartedly with the strategic priorities we have identified for ourselves over the next seven years, and the Board met in retreat yesterday to discuss and hone these priorities. Look for a published strategic plan before the end of the year to provide our road map for the future.

Many thanks to everyone who put time and energy into this process over the past 18 months.

NEWS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS
Senior Speech: Rio Wu
To me, wearing the hat is my quirk. To others it may be many other things. It is all just something that we like, but others find weird. I am used to it and I don't plan on changing it just because people find it weird. A friend is only your true friend when he or she can accept or try to accept who you are and what you are like. An Uber driver told me once that after all the years you live, you will find out that you only need the true friends. It may be a cliche, but it is essential to understand this. Whoever judges you because of your difference, let them be. As long as you are happy and you like who you are, be yourself.

Senior Speech: Mitch Nardoni
"Stress is basically a disconnection from the Earth, a forgetting of the breath. Stress is an ignorant state. It believes that everything is an emergency. Nothing is that important. Just lie down." This is a quote by Natalie Goldberg and it couldn't be more true. So what if you're a little bit late to school. It's not the end of the world unless of course you're on the verge of a 7 am. But honestly people are missing out on beauty everywhere.

Take my advice and relax a little. You'll find beauty everywhere.

Comedy and Magic Club Fundraiser

A huge thank you to current and past parent Jayme Brewer for all her hard work and effort in organizing this event.

Student Organized Stuffed Animal Drive

Our students want to help the  many kids in foster care who constantly move from place to place and possibly losing things along the way. We are asking for stuffed animal donations of all shapes and sizes to give to children as they go through the final process of adoption. There will be another box in the office with a sheet. The advisory with the most donations will get an ice cream party donated by the Whitfield family.

The deadline has been extended to March 21.

WEEKLY HIGHLIGHTS

On Monday, March 13,  7th grade students went on a field trip to LACMA for Art of Many Cultures.

Corey Lovaas from Natural High, came to campus on Monday to perform for students. Natural High is an organization which works to inspire and empower youth to find their natural high and develop the skills and courage to live life well and drug-free.
In honor of Pi Day, students have been competing to see who can memorize the most digits of pi. The top two middle school students were Trevor Flynn, who memorized 35 digits, and Ariel Martinez with 51 digits. The top two upper school students were Connie Zhao with 90 digits, and Izzy Levin who made it all the way to 110 digits.
For Pi Day this week, students threw pies at their favorite teachers, enjoyed a selection of temporary Pi tattoos, and participated in a "mini" pie eating contest. The math department at RHP and Ren work tirelessly to make sure that math is both challenging and fun.

On Thursday, March 16, 8th grade students were able to participate in a high school level field trip to the LACMA exhibit, The Printed Past - Exploring History Through Art.
