March moves us one step closer to another fun and adventure packed RV camping season. The weather is still unpredictable, so it might be too soon to start our RV spring preparation tasks but planning RV trips is not out of the question. I have always found when you plan RV trips you are more likely to actually take the trip. Planning your RV trips allows sufficient time to put in for vacation, plan the route you want to take and to make advance reservations. Campground reservations can be difficult to make during prime camping season. So, plan some RV trips this month and next month we'll look at getting the RV ready to take those trips.  Mark

RV Buzz Carbon Monoxide Safety Tips
When it comes to RVs and camping Carbon Monoxide CO gas usually results from:
  • Exhaust leaks from a vehicle engine or a generator.
  • Improper use of portable gas powered heaters.
  • Someone else's vehicle or generator when camping in close quarters.
  • Malfunctioning or unvented LP gas appliances
It wasn't until January 1, 2005 that every new RV was required to have a CO detector installed. That means there are literally millions of older RVs out there with no CO detectors. If your RV does not have a carbon monoxide detector you need to purchase a battery operated carbon monoxide detector designed for use in RVs. Test the carbon monoxide detector every time you use the RV, and on battery operated models replace the carbon monoxide detector batteries when you change clocks for daylight savings time.
For RVs that are equipped with CO detectors check the detector expiration date and replace any safety devices that have expired.
