Shenandoah Chefalo is the author of Garbage Bag Suitcase. Her book details her dysfunctional childhood after entering the Michigan foster care system at the age of 13 due to neglect by her parents. Through resilience, she is now a parent and an advocate for children in the system, and for understanding how dysfunction can have adverse effects on children. Chefalo will be leading the conversation on how communities can assist families in "Striving to Thrive" by working together. Highlights of this event include:
