At this time of year, science is all around us. We see changing weather patterns as the Santa Ana winds begin to blow. And Daylight Savings Time reminds us that the earth tilts on its axis as it revolves around the sun. But the most important part of this time of year is giving thanks for all of you who make it possible for the Fleet to share our passion for science with the community. Thank you for your support!

In keeping with the theme of giving thanks, I'd like to tell you about a couple who have been longtime supporters of the Fleet Science Center. They have been so inspired by what is happening at the Fleet, especially our current exhibit The Art of the Brick , that they wanted to ensure kids from underserved communities in our region could experience it themselves. They recently made a gift providing scholarships that will allow more than 1,500 students from Title I schools to see The Art of the Brick as part of their field trip to the Fleet!

This couple, who wishes to remain anonymous, asked that their donation support Title I kids because they know these schools don't have extra funds for field trips to the Fleet, let alone special exhibits like The Art of the Brick. They believe that more children in San Diego County should have access to the wonder of STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) learning. What better place than the Fleet to discover the possibilities and power of science!
