Principal's Message

Dear Parents/Guardians:

PARCC testing will begin at Prairie Grove next week.  We hope to see all of our students present and well rested on testing days.  The PARCC assessments are computer based and aligned to the Illinois State Learning Standards and students in grades 3-8 will take assessments in English-Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics.

There are many important reasons why students should take these assessments and take them seriously, doing their best to demonstrate their current progress.   Individual score reports can provide a detailed analysis of each student's academic strengths and areas for growth in these important core disciplines.  The results also help teachers and administrators make informed decisions regarding academic programs to best meet our students' individual needs.   The PARCC assessment not only provides our staff a barometer of how effectively we are providing instruction, it also provides our parents a barometer on how well your child is progressing.

Perhaps the most frequently asked question of a principal is, "Will my child be challenged at your school?"  The Illinois Learning Standards and the PARCC assessment does just that.   I ask as a partner in your child's education, please encourage your child on those days to do their best.  It is with your partnership that the students of Prairie Grove continue to thrive, learn, and grow.

I hope you all enjoy your weekend and the gorgeous weather heading our way!

Best regards,
Martha Maggiore

Important Information about Lice

Please continue to monitor your children for signs of lice.  This is the time of year when we often see cases of lice in our schools.  We encourage you to periodically check your child's head for any indication of lice.  If you would like more information about head lice and examples of proactive measures you can take at home, please refer to the following link:

MANDATORY DENTAL EXAMS
Kindergarten, 2nd, and 6th Graders

A mandatory dental exam is required for all kindergarten second, and sixth grade students!  This is a requirement by the Illinois Department of Public Health.

The law requires all kindergarten, second, and sixth grade students have a dental examination performed by a dentist by  MAY 15th.

The examination may have been completed within 18 months prior to the May 15th deadline.

Please hand in these forms or make your dental appointments now.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact our school nurse, Dawn Abrams.
