GET TO KNOW THE ARGI TEAM

Jim Trujillo, CFP®, CCPS®
Financial Advisor

Describe your role at ARGI in less than two sentences:  For my clients I am a personal planning advisor and friend. For my peers I'm an ARGI cheerleader and class clown.

Do you have a nickname? Many. My real name is James, but I've been to known to go by Jim, Jimmy, and Jimbo.

Hometown:  Louisville, KY

Motto/mantra/favorite quote?
"Don't let anyone steal your peace."- a family mantra. It's a constant reminder that you can't control anyone's actions but your own, and to always choose kindness and peace towards others.

What is the greatest challenge you have had to overcome in your life thus far?  My senior year of college, I was at a crossroads with how to take my next steps. Up until that point I had dedicated my life to the Arts - acting and singing specifically - and had always planned on making a career out of it. I had spent my entire childhood believing that the hundreds of hours of vocal lessons, community and semi-professional theatre performances, being accepted into the Governor's School for the Arts would allow me to create a living in this field.

Leading up to graduation, the plan was that my fiance and I would move to LA to pursue an acting career. My struggle was that I had seen many upperclassmen, who I believed were as talented or more talented than myself, do that same thing with horror stories of the reality of Hollywood. Auditions all day long with 100 others who are just like you; being told no 1,000 times in hopes that you get 1 yes; working multiple serving gigs to pay rent for your studio apartment that you share with 6 others.

It just wasn't going to cut it.

Finally it clicked - what I knew I wanted from all that training. I realized it wasn't the fame, or the spotlight. It was that I wanted to connect with people and make them smile. Growing up in Louisville, I had heard about ARGI and the company's philosophy through family and friends, and realized I could do what I truly wanted here: to connect with people and help them with their life goals.

Where is your favorite place to vacation?  Wrightsville Beach, N.C.

What is your favorite hobby? Playing soccer.

What is the best book you have ever read?   It was actually a script, Waiting for Godot. I loved that everyone can interpret it differently.

Are you involved with any charities or non-profits?  Special Olympics of Kentucky. Before I worked at ARGI, I was an ABA therapist for Meaningful Day Services where I worked with children with special needs. We would do the Polar Plunge every year, raising money for the Special Olympians and I fell in love with the cause.

Number one thing on your bucket list?  Go to a World Cup.

What would you do (for a career) if you weren't doing this?  Besides pursuing an acting career, growing up I wanted to be either a Veterinarian or a Paleontologist.

If you could do another job for just one day, what would it be?  Astronaut

What would you most like to tell yourself at age 13?  Keep going with your gut, it works out in the end

How do you define success?  Not by the finished product, but the memories and relationships made along the way.

HEALTHY HABITS
April is National Donate Life Month. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services encourages Americans to sign up on your state registry as an organ donor. There are currently over 119,000 men, women and children on the national transplant waiting list, and a single donor can save eight lives.

ARGI GIVES
On April 27, we're excited to participate in our first company-wide volunteer day at the Home of the Innocents. This organization has been helping Louisville's most at-risk and vulnerable citizens since 1880.

We will be spending the morning, helping the organization freshen up their facilities by mulching, weeding and tidying up around their warehouse. Look for more information on our company-wide volunteer day in next month's issue!
