A Mission-Driven Church

Our Mission...
The Memorial Tabernacle Church has come together by the Holy Spirit for the specific purpose of preaching and teaching the word of God, (the Bible), and about Jesus Christ, God's son, and to proclaim the gospel of the Kingdom of God to the North Oakland Community and its environs; to bring healing to the brokenhearted and deliverance to the oppressed.
Notes On Sunday's Sermon
"WHEN THEY WERE FULLY AWAKE, THEY SAW HIS GLORY!" (Luke 9:28-32

The first reason Jesus allowed Peter, James, and John to experience His glory was to show them He was more than even they understood Him to be. Because when His is glory is revealed, so the possibility of potential is revealed. Peter, James, and John were of Jewish descent. The Jews were expecting a conquering king to be their Savior. As a matter of fact,  the Bible tells us that after observing the miracles, the Jews tried to make Jesus king. And Jesus' refusal of all the accolades was perplexing to them. The fact that Jesus didn't call down fire on the Samaritans when they rejected Him was confusing. They were so entrenched in tradition that they could not imagine that the God of Israel would send a suffering servant to be their Savior.

Isn't that just like us - trying to make God conform to what we think God ought to be and do? God is busy trying to bless you, and you are busy putting God in a box so you can be blessed whenever you want, how you want, and with what you want. But it's when we open ourselves to experience the fullness of God that He shows us His glory. It's when we are in a pinch that God is able to expose Himself to us in a way He has never done before. It's not a matter of whether God is capable. The question is whether we are prepared to see His glory.

Many of us are like Moses when he met God at the burning bush. We have not experienced enough of God's capacity to know how to describe God. So when Moses asked God who should he tell Pharaoh sent him, God said just tell him you were sent by "I Am." I like that because it's a description of the very essence of God. It means that God is entirely self-existent. Totally self-sufficient. It means that God is whatever you need God to be. Do you need God to be love? God says, "I Am." Do you need peace? God says, "I Am." Do you need provision? God says, "I Am." You can fill in the blank for yourself. Whatever you need, God says, "I Am."

Because of Chri st,

Pastor Ulysses Stephen King, Jr.

The Resurrection of Our Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ

Season of Lent
March 1st - April 13th

Lent is a 40-day fast and will run up until the Saturday before Easter or Resurrection Sunday (not including Sundays within this period). The Lent period reflects when Jesus fasted and suffered in the desert for 40 days and 40 nights, before he started his ministry.

According to the Bible, he was tempted by Satan during this time, but each time he managed to refuse his temptations.  People follow Jesus' example and give up vices in a bid to grow closer to God as Easter or Resurrection Sunday approaches.

Christian Education: Bible Study
Tuesdays, 7:00PM

During this season of Lent, we invite all to be a part of our Tuesday evening Bible Study Class as we always do.

"Then Jesus said to His disciples, 'If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.'" (Matthew 16:24)

Join us each week as we revisit the last steps of Jesus before he went to the cross. Let us walk with Jesus towards the cross. Doors open at 6:40PM, and class begins at 7:00PM.  Class is held in the main sanctuary.

All are welcome to learn, grow, explore, and engage!
