Stand Against Racism Panel

On Thursday April 27 the YWCA is hosting their  Stand Against Racism Conference  at the YWCA of Southeast Wisconsin  from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The panel this year will feature Women of Color Leading Change. 

Stand Against Racism is a signature campaign of YWCA USA. The focus for 2017 is "Women of Color Leading Change." They have invited a panel of women, in various stages of their lives, to address how they've come to see themselves as leaders. They will speak individually, and with each other, prior to opening it up to the full group.

WACYCP annual youth worker conference
WACYCP Annual Youth Workers Conference Nominations

The Wisconsin Association of Child and Youth Providers is seeking nominations for several categories for youth work done in 2016.  All nominees and nominators will receive a special invitation to this free event. There will be a free dinner, entertainment and there will be a cash bar.

Please turn in your nominations prior to April 10th 2017. 

Applications can be submitted here. The conference will be held Thursday June 1 at the Double Tree Hotel. They will honor all the work done for youth in 2016.

March For Science Milwaukee
 
On Saturday April 22 Milwaukee will have the Milwaukee March for Science at 2 p.m. at Red Arrow Park in downtown Milwaukee 

The March for Science is publicly funded and publicly communicated science as a pillar of human freedom and prosperity. They unite as a diverse, nonpartisan group to call for science that upholds the common good, and for political leaders and policymakers to enact evidence-based policies in the public interest.

This is a non-partisan, all-encompassing community effort in support of science! Milwaukee residents deserve policy that values facts over ideological agendas. The event is free and open to the public.

Creating a Multi-Cultural Democracy-Winona LaDuke

Thursday April 6 Winona LaDuke is presenting "Creating a Multi-Cultural Democracy: Religion, Culture, and ldentity in America," at Weasler Auditorium at Marquette University. The event is free and open to the public, but registration is encouraged. Registration is availabl e here.  

LaDuke is known for her work on environmental and human rights issues. She is the executive director of Honor the Earth and works for environmental justice. 


Men Helping Men

Men Helping Man is a monthly meeting about men dealing with the loss of a loved one due to opiate overdose. They meet the first Thursday of every month from 6 to 8 p.m. at Plymouth United Church of Christ

This person could be lost through death or active addiction. There will be other men to talk about the effects of a lost loved one

Know Your Rights Training

9to5 Wisconsin is hosting " Know Your Rights Training" Saturday April 29 at the MLK Public Library from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Join 9to5 Wisconsin to answer workforce with the upcoming "Know your Rights Training" featuring Attorney Antonique Williams and a panel discussion from professionals of color in the area. 

Answer questions regarding:
-Kinds of EEOC (Equal Employment Opportunity Center) violations
-How to wear locs and other natural styles in the workplace

The event is free and open to the public.

Milwaukee Rescue Mission Lead Teacher

The Milwaukee Rescue Mission's Child Enrichment Center is seeking teachers who are motivated, dedicated and passionate about early childhood education. We have one part-time (hours roughly 1:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.) lead teacher position available.

Lead teachers are responsible for creating and implementing age appropriate lesson plans, monitoring and documenting growth and development, communicating effectively with students and parents, classroom management and maintaining a clean and organized classroom.

Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin Surgical Assistant

Under the supervision of the Center Manager, performs a variety of clerical duties to assist patients in obtaining health center services and provides non-judgmental, empathetic communication with patients as needed. This position may also assist patients who seek abortion services by screening, educating and preparing them for a procedure in Spanish.
