Dear First Grade Families,

This week marks the start of our spring field trips. As part of Farms and Markets on the Coast unit, the first grade classes wll be taking a field trip almost every week. A package of permission forms will be coming home in the next few days and the driver/chaperone sign ups will be posted shortly. Please check you calendars and join us when you are available. This is a great time of year to grab those extra honorable hours.

We hope you have enjoyed the beautuful weather this week and look forward to seeing you at the upcoming end of second-trimester conferences on  March 23rd and 24th . Please follow the link below to sign up if you haven't done so already.

What We Have Been Learning
Ask Your Child About

Talking with your child is the best way to support classroom learning. The following questions and activities can help you get started.

  • Using small objects like Cheerios or buttons, have your first grader count, add and subtract numbers to 20. Make sure they are putting them in groups of 10's and adding on.
  • What is schema? How do you use schema to help you understand stories?
  • Let's brainstorm some words that start with S blends, L Blends and R Blends.
  • Why do scientists have to order their results?
  • What farm do you live closest to?
