|
Dear Third
Grade Families,
Welcome back! We hope you all had a fabulous week with loved ones. The students have returned to school rested and ready to take on new challenges. This is good news because from wrapping up astronomy projects to dividing up literature jobs and filling out job applications, third graders are busily working. We look forward to sharing these fabulous discoveries with you during our
Academic Celebration on Friday, March 17th at 9:00 a.m.
We also look forward to seeing you at the upcoming end of second-trimester conferences on
March 23rd and 24th
. Please follow the link below to sign up.

Sincerely,
Your Third

What We Have Been Learning
|
|
Reading/Writing
During Reader's Workshop, students chose their Chocolate Literature books (
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,
Chocolate Fever,
Chocolate Touch, or The Story of Chocolate).
Each
group met, agreed on the number of pages to read, discussed the chapter questions and connections, and are rotating through the jobs of Word Wizard, Illustrator, Passage Picker and Question Asker. Throughout this rotation, teachers meet with each
group as well.
It warms our hearts to actually hear the students cheer when we announce that it is Reader's Workshop time. Along with this, students have been working diligently on informational writing about their astronomy passion.
|
Science
As we wind up the science
unit, on
Astronomy, please check your calendars to see if you can join us on our next field trip to
Chabot Space Center- March 15th.
|
|
Math
Students continue to explore the many ways to understand and represent multiplication, including repeated addition, equal groups, arrays, and skip counting.
|
On Valentine's Day third graders applied their math knowledge to a holiday themed activity.
|
Social Studies
Students applied for classroom jobs to earn money for their future businesses in Economics.

Talking with your child is the best way to support classroom learning. The following questions can help you get started.
- Ask students in Mrs Bybee's class about the amaryllis growing experiment.
- What is one fact (or more) you learned about your astronomy topic?
- What are some ways to spread kindness around the school?
|
|
|
- Thank you for supporting your child with reading daily and signing their planner!
- Start playing games or use apps to practice multiplications facts through the 5's
