A Note From Your Fourth Grade Teachers
Fourth Grade Connections
 March 16th, 2017
Dear Fourth  Grade Families,

March is always an exciting month at Sea Crest. It marks the beginning of Spring. The school takes the hopeful energy of the season and puts on a musical full of song, dance, color, and small miracles. Then the end of the second trimester sneaks up on all of us. As one trimester ends and another begins, teachers and students become busy in the process of assessing, reflecting, and setting goals. And finally with the click of a button, your child's report card finds its way into your inbox.

It’s important to take a moment to acknowledge just how far your child has come. Your child is seven months older than he/she was on the first day of school. Your child has tried something new, made mistakes, felt uncertain at times, and yes, made progress. Your child has made the progress he/she needed to make in these months. For one child, it means having discovered a book he couldn’t put down and finally understanding what it means to love reading. For another, it’s learning that believing in yourself and persevering through challenge does pay off. And for many, the gains your children have made socially and emotionally have been profound.

These are not the same children that met us that crisp, September morning on the blacktop. We blinked our adult eyes for a moment, and the Fourth Graders magically transformed into older, wiser, more confident “almost-Fifth-Graders.” The student-led conference is a symbol along our journey together this year. Yes, your child is making progress and your child is growing up. Let's try not to blink so much.

We look forward to seeing you at the upcoming end of second-trimester conferences on March 23rd and 24th. If you have not signed up, please follow the link below.

Please note: Thursday, March 23rd is a minimum day for students and there is no school for students on Friday, March 24th.  Please review Extended Day offerings on these days.

Sincerely,

Your Fourth  Grade Team

What We Have Been Learning
Ask Your Child About

Talking with your child is the best way to support classroom learning. The following questions can help you get started.

  • Of the whales we have done research on, what whale do you find most interesting and why?
  • Where and when does exclusion happen at school? How can you be more inclusive?
  • What have you learned about your social issue so far?
Homework
Tomorrow: Parent Education Workshop
Distraction, Multi-Tasking and Time Management, Friday, March 17th, 8:30 - 9:30 a.m., Think Tank. Research shows that media multitasking while studying and learning can have a negative impact on our children's academic performance. Speaker Laurie Schoeffler, Student Support Coordinator, will provide tools to work around media disruption.
