The CMP M1A™ Match: An Annual Springfield Tradition

Do you love the M1A™? It's a classic battle rifle that's served in the U.S. Armed Forces as the M14 and can still be seen in service, albeit in a limited role. It first entered service in 1957 and was standard-issue from 1959 to 1970. In fact, this year is the 60th anniversary of the M14's entry into service.  In honor of this rifle, over the past 11 years, Springfield Armory® has sponsored the M1A™ Match at Camp Perry.  Not familiar with the match?  We spoke with Springfield's Facilities Manager Mike Doy to give us some background and details on this decade-old tradition.

CMP Club News: Wildlife Committee of Washington (WCW)

The Wildlife Committee of Washington (WCW) held its second Garand/Springfield/Vintage/Modern Military Match for calendar year 2017. There was good turnout in that there were eight competitors for this event, with two brand new to the game. The rifles used included M-1 Garands, Krag-Jørgensen, Swedish Mauser, 1917 Enfield and ARs. The weather was nice, and competitors elected to follow Course B - 55 rounds. The ARs proved to be quite formidable, with two competitors using the rifle earning silver award pins.

Shooting News in Other Media

An American Icon - The M1 Garand Lives On... - Accurateshooter.com - My father carried a Garand in WWII. That was reason enough for me to want one. But I also loved the look, feel, and heft of this classic American battle rifle. And the unique "Ping" of the ejected en-bloc clip is music to the ears of Garand fans. Some folks own a Garand for the history, while others enjoy competing with this old war-horse. Around the country there are regular competition series for Garand shooters, and the CMP's John C. Garand Match is one of the most popular events at Camp Perry every year. This year's Perry Garand Match will be held Saturday, 22 July 2017. Read the complete article.
