A Cleveland Hustles winner and a new yoga studio now call Downtown Akron home
Pop up retail program welcomes two new businesses in the Northside District
Akron Honey Company, the business and community venture by Brent Wesley, opened recently at 106 N. Main Street. Akron Honey Company Forage is the 11th business to open through Downtown Akron Partnership's (DAP) pop-up retail program.

106 N. Main is home to Noto North, Akron Honey
and Do Good Yoga
The program launched in 2015 and aims to fill vacant property space with local clients in order to promote economic development and the vibrancy of Downtown Akron. Phase two of this program is aided by support from the Burton D. Morgan Foundation.

"There's a certain coolness - a mini Renaissance happening - in Downtown Akron. There are a lot of different ventures popping up," said Wesley when asked about his choice to settle his business downtown. "Akron is a small place where everyone knows each other and wants to help each other. It was an easy decision."

Wesley's adventure began in 2013. Determined to create beauty in his neighborhood, he bought a plot of vacant land in West Akron and turned it into an apiary. Eventually, his beekeeping hobby evolved into a business dedicated to responsible urban agriculture and community involvement.

In 2017, Akron Honey Company will look toward the future. In addition to boasting three apiaries across Akron, Wesley is hard at work finishing development of Akron Honey Company Forage, an organic, innovative skincare line.

Do Good Yoga
Akron Honey's neighbor at 106 N. Main Street is Do Good Yoga, the 12th business to open under DAP's pop-up program. Do Good Yoga celebrated its grand opening on Feb. 14.

"I chose Akron because of the community - the arts, music and food culture. People are like-minded in that they are invested in the development of the city," said Gretchen Horinger. She is the founder of Do Good, but her work doesn't stop there. Horinger instructs rasa, peak, and open yoga classes Monday through Friday. With the help of two other yoga instructors, Do Good hosts community events like Book-Wine-Yoga Club and Power Lunch Fridays.

"It sounds like one of those yoga clichés, but the universe had a message for me," Horinger said of her experience turning her dream into a reality. "I just had to listen."
