A quartet of young men who came out of Memphis to conquer the world of popular music in the 1950s will "stage" a comeback May 19, 2017 at Playhouse On The Square - to the benefit of CrimeStoppers, Playhouse and the city's heroic men and women in blue.

Now is your chance to purchase tickets to the show, and to make a donation to send an officer and guest to see the popular musical Million Dollar Quartet. Just click  here now.

The occasion is the sixth annual CrimeStoppers Night At The Theatre, starting with a reception at 6 p.m. and the show at 8. It all takes place at the main Playhouse theatre at 66 South Cooper Street in the Overton Square area. This fundraiser has become a not-to-be-missed event, which helps three deserving organizations - CrimeStoppers of Memphis and Shelby County, Playhouse On The Square, and Memphis City Police.

The musical is a stage production of the historic Dec. 4, 1956 jam session at Sun Studios on Union Avenue when Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins laid down tracks under the supervision of Sam Phillips. The historic moment has taken on the aura of legend. The musical opened on Broadway in New York in 2011, garnering rave reviews.

The New York Times called the show  " a buoyant new jukebox musical about a hallowed day in the history of rock 'n' roll."

Tickets remain just $50, which includes dinner, drinks and the show and tickets are in limited supply.  Ordering can be done on line here.

MARCH
2017
$1,000 awarded
for tip in slaying

Tips from citizens have helped Memphis Police investigators solve four homicides in the first two months of 2017.

The latest solved case involved an armed robbery February 16 of the Golden Jewelers store, 6506 Winchester Road in Southeast Memphis. A man waving a handgun walked in during store hours. A customer, 42-year-old Noah Ashene, was holding a month-old infant. Before he could turn around the robber stabbed him in the back.

He soon died. The child fortunately was unhurt.

Based on a tip received 10 days later, police arrested Jesse Slade, 21, and charged him with first degree murder. The tipster was awarded $1,000 and was among 23 cases in February that brought awards from CrimeStoppers.

February stats include
25 arrests for felonies

The CrimeStoppers Board considered and approved the 23 tips for award payments at an early March meeting. The total in awards paid came to $9,050, including one $1,000 payment to an anonymous tipster in the homicide case mentioned above.

The tips in February resulted in 25 arrests on felonies and 19 investigative cases cleared.

Although the number of arrests due to tips information was down from the same period a year ago, the volume of tips received was slightly higher at 0.68%.
