Good Morning Hope,
WDYWFY (pronounced widdy wiffy) is a saying that's been around for quite a while. It's really at the heart of all good coaching, parenting, leading, counseling and basic friendship. If you haven't figured it out yet, the acronym stands for "What Do You Want For Yourself."
At best, this question can help anyone find their deepest God-given passions and desires. It can establish motivational foundations for pursuing a life worth living. And it can serve to unite people in common purposes. At worst, this question is just another tool for achieving selfish pursuits.
As a church, God has placed in us the passions and desires to love him and to love our neighbors. Don't you just love the clarity he gives us?
For the next few minutes I want to ask you to think about WDYWFY in light of your entire life. What do you want for yourself? Will you answer this question on your own? Or will you ask God to help you identify the answer that he has for you?
This weekend at worship we will hear Jesus proclaim,
"I am the resurrection and the life (John 11.25.)" He proclaimed it to people who wanted their brother and friend to be brought back to life. Jesus revealed that not only can he resurrect someone from the dead, but that he also has the power to give someone a life. Mary and Martha knew what they wanted for themselves but it was for more than just themselves. It was for community with their brother. And Jesus answered with resurrection and life.
What kind of life do you want for yourself? What kind of life do you want for your friends? Neighbors? Colleagues? What about for the people in your life that are, well, enemies?
Come to worship this weekend with the goals, passions, desires, and dreams of your life and find out how God will bring resurrection and life to you in Jesus Christ. Don't have any goals, passions, desires, and dreams? Perfect. Come to worship this weekend and let God counsel you with his great love and identify in you his resurrection and his life.
If you are wanting and waiting for faith, transformation, answers and assurance, come and get it from the one who is the resurrection and the life.
Oh, we know that the entire world around us is in need of Jesus/ resurrection and life, so... invite them. It's our mission.
WDYWFY?
