All Smiles and New Friends
Students made new friends during the recent Step Over Days. Their smiles are evidence that the change underway can create a stronger and better environment for the future of learning in our Duluth Catholic School.

And the New Name is...
Coming very soon! Watch for a special announcement on March 31st as the name for the newly unified Duluth Catholic School is revealed. Bishop Sirba received over twenty suggestions and the field has been narrowed as his final discernment is underway.

Open House and Welcome Wednesday Events Continue
March 23rd, 5:00-6:30 pm - Holy Rosary Campus
Tonight, the Duluth Catholic School hosts its second open house event at the Holy Rosary campus geared for the pre-kindergarten through grade four programs. Parents and students of current and future families are encouraged to attend, and learn more about plans for the 2017-2018 school year. This casual event includes an opportunity to tour the facility, meet with teachers and staff, and administrators will be available in the school library for a question and answer session. Celebrate spring with the sounds of student talent by staying for the Holy Rosary Band and Choir Concert at 7 pm in the gym. Admission is free and the public is warmly invited.

sday morning. This is a casual, easy way to see the campuses. Drop-in during the hours listed below:

An Evening of Busy Hallways
The hallways and classrooms at the St. John's campus were buzzing last Thursday with an open house event focused on the middle school program (grades 5-8). Teachers, staff, administrators, and Duluth Catholic School board members mingled with families for tours and student activities. A question and answer session was led by Principals Mrs. Peggy Frederickson and Mr. Jesse Murray.
"I really enjoyed watching the kids upstairs together. It was like they were already connecting and enjoying each other. It was fun to see how happy and excited the kids seemed that night and how they were all getting along together," shared parent Mrs. Sarah Pennings. She added, "I was encouraged, because the staff was very positive and showed excitement. If you look past the space and moving buildings, it really is more of how the kids and teachers interact that make the school a special place to be."
Holy Rosary teacher Mrs. Kristin Larson said, "I was able to tour several families through the St. John's facility and then work with incoming 7th and 8th graders in an advisory setting. The energy in the building was palpable. Seeing families think through the possibilities the site offers for a dedicated middle school was a privilege. Watching students from three school sites get comfortable by simply playing with each other was a joy." It was an engaging and informative evening with strong turnout by parents and students.

Teacher Placement
Annually our schools undergo the placement of faculty and staff in preparation for the new school year. This year is slightly different as the campuses transition for the new Duluth Catholic School. In this transition, it has remained a priority to retain current teachers, administrators, and support staff who have brought Catholic education to our families.
The teacher placement process began with offering current teachers an opportunity to commit to next year's ministry. The next phase will involve placing teachers based on their response, credentials, and interest while matching program needs. It is our desire to offer meaningful placement to teachers based upon their response and wish to stay with Duluth Catholic School. We hope to share the roster of teachers for each campus later this spring. The complete roster and assignments will be included in the summer packet mailed to all parents.

Pre-Kindergarten Program Update
Pre-Kindergarten at the Holy Rosary and St. James campuses will offer programming for children ages three- to five-years-old. All children must be completely potty-trained. Two programs will be offered: three days/week (M, W, F) and two days/week (Tu, Th). Priority placement for the three days/week option will be given to four-and five-year-olds, and the two days/week option will be mixed ages of three years and up. The curriculum is designed to support child development in the areas of spiritual development, self-awareness, self-sufficiency, conflict resolution, and other life skills. These skills are taught and practiced through dramatic and imaginative play, creative thinking, social interactions, and problem solving. Students also receive instruction in pre-math, reading, religion, science, music and art. Read more about the prekindergarten program here
