A Note from Frankie

Dear Friends,

Spring is here and with it the promise of a new beginning, a fresh start, a "spring clean." What does that mean for us as we reflect on our yoga practice? Perhaps it is best thought of as a time of year when we are more conscious than ever that each moment of our life blossoms from the vibrational seeds that we have planted within. Just as we choose what we wish to plant in our gardens this year, we can choose what we want to cultivate in our lives. It is only when we are consciously in the present moment that we truly have choice. The strength of body and quietness of mind that yoga brings to us allows us to actively, joyfully manifest the life that we desire.

This spring I am offering three workshops: Aerial Yoga (April 1st), Spirals: Yoga Revolutions (April 15th) and Yoga to Go: Developing Your Home Practice (May 13th). Each of these courses highlights a facet of the path of yoga offering strength, stability, study, and fun. Flexibility is often what quality people think of mostly when considering yoga, and yet flexibility is found only in relation to these other aspects.  Even if we never study the anatomy of our body, we are training the "intelligence of our bodies" through the asanas.  And the spirit of fun or interest can spark life into our practice dispelling both dullness and resistance. We don't want to be so loose that we are not stable, so naturally strength is essential to our balance, performance and health. I look forward to sharing these special programs with you.

A new daytime Tai Chi class is beginning April 7th, just on the heels of a one night only Tai Chi Push Hands class is March 29th. Push Hands is a powerful practice that can bring your Tai Chi to the next level. The Intermediate Qigong six week series begins April 5th. In this course, I will be teaching meditation and self-healing forms such as "Small Heaven." These focus on what is often called the "internals" of Tai Chi forms. The Intermediate class is open to anyone who has ever taken the Beginning class, even if it has been some time ago.

Finally, we are announcing our next Yoga Teacher Training Program.  The 300 hour Yoga Alliance Approved Teacher Training at Satya Life Yoga will start August of 2017.  It is comprised of 12.5 intensive weekends.  We are accepting applications now.  Sign up soon to take advantage of our early bird pricing!

That's all for now!  Let's enjoy this beautiful weather!

Namaste,
Frankie

Root, Revolve & Revitalize

New Yoga Workshop:
Spirals: Yoga Revolutions
with Frankie Hart
Saturday, April 15, 2017
1-4 PM

Parvritta = Revolved

Join Frankie Hart as she explores the myo-fascial spiral line of the body. The Spiral Line is a helix-shaped train of muscle and fascia that integrates the body literally from head to foot.  A dynamic understanding of this line can spark a new  sense of strength, balance, and range of motion in any of your poses  - from triangle to crow to headstand.

This workshop is perfect for yoga students of all levels.
Empower every yoga revolution!  Radiate outward as you root down.

Twisting poses require a commitment of strength to maintain the basic structure of the pose.  We need to cultivate balance, stability, and core strength even before we begin to spiral out.   In order to find the most freedom and spinal rotation we must powerfully engage the supportive muscles of the legs and deep core.  In standing poses, too often, practitioners will attempt to rotate the spine at the  shoulder girdle and allow the strength of the core and the support of the legs to go lax in order to achieve the false look of a greater amount of twist.

The obliques (abdominal muscles) are often overlooked in deep twists and the muscles of the shoulder and upper arm become overworked or excessively torqued.

How can we depend on the strength and stability of our core to maintain our balance and initiate the revolution?

Tai Chi can perhaps best be thought of as a moving form of meditation.

It is a self-paced, noncompetitive, graceful form of exercise appropriate for all levels of fitness. Learning to do the forms correctly builds bone density as it increases muscle strength, flexibility and overall coordination. Practicing Tai Chi contributes to better standing, walking, and seated postures. Practitioners realize benefits including improved balance and posture, stress relief and ease of movement in life's daily activities.

Experiencing Tai Chi as meditation in motion creates a calm and tranquil mind.

These classes are open to everyone. People new to Tai Chi are welcome!

New Intermediate Qigong Course
6 Week Series starts 04/05/2017
Wednesdays 7:15-8:45 PM

A rare chance to study this profound practice of Qigong on a higher level. In Intermediate Qigong, you will learn Small Heaven, also called The Microcosmic Orbit.

This practice is of extreme importance in building the foundation for cultivating energy in the Inner Dan Arts. The Inner Dan Arts is a system of Qigong developed by Master Tianyou Hao and taught by Master Frankie Hart.

Consistent practice of Small Heaven opens the paths of the Ren and Du Mai, the main channels of Yin and Yang energy. The stimulation and free circulation of energy through these channels promotes the flow of energy and blood through the body. Qigong also improves the concentration of your mind producing a profound calming effect. This quiet mind will positively affect your heart rhythm, brain waves, blood pressure, muscle contraction, and breathing. Even more significantly, your mind can then become the master of your energy. As the Mind leads the Qi, the Qi follows the Mind and you can use this Qi to harmonize your life and heal any part of the body.

Qigong practice teaches us to "Get Qi, Feel Qi, Move Qi."

Fees: $120.00, $60.00 for repeating Intermediate students.
