An Important Message About VOICE

Dear Heilicher Parents,

We have received a number of questions from parents about VOICE night - the parent-child community service evening that Heilicher historically has held in March.

Over the past few years, we have received feedback from parents that, while VOICE night is meaningful, families are looking for ways to engage in community service throughout the school year - not just on one night. With this in mind, in lieu of VOICE night, we will be piloting a series of smaller parent-child community service options this spring, with a goal of offering a number of these types of opportunities throughout next school year.

Spaces for these three experiences are limited and there are some age restrictions. We will look for more opportunities to add to this list over the next few weeks. Sign-ups are linked below.

Tuesday, May 9 , 6:00-8:00 p.m.: Packing meals at Second Harvest in Golden Valley (must be 8 years old to volunteer)

Wednesday, May 24 , 6:30-8:00 p.m.: Organizing donations at STEP  in St. Louis Park (all ages)

Wednesday, June 7 , 6:00-8:00 p.m.: Packing meals at Second Harvest in Golden Valley (must be 8 years old to volunteer)

In addition to these evening opportunities, we have been working with faculty to identify ways for volunteerism to be woven into the curricular experience at every grade level. Examples (which will unfold over the coming months) include a kindergarten book drive to benefit Books for Africa, sixth graders volunteering with the inclusion program for people with disabilities at the Sabes JCC, and seventh and eighth graders visiting with residents of Sholom Home locally and with Jewish seniors during their Washington DC trip.

Thank you, and please  email me if you have suggestions for parent-child community service activities or any questions about our experiential education program.

B'shalom,
Experiential Education Director

School's Out Programming During Passover Break

Passover Break begins on Monday, April 10, and runs through Tuesday, April 18. HaBonim will run School's Out Programming, as it has in past years, on the intermediate days of Passover, but not on the first and seventh days of the holiday.

As we wrote earlier this year, since HaBonim is now part of Heilicher, we will be reviewing and evaluating future School's Out offerings when they coincide with a Jewish holiday to ensure our programming is in line with our inclusive philosophy. Please contact Etan Dov Weiss, Director of Jewish Life and Hebrew, with any questions, suggestions or concerns.

HaBonim programming is available for a fee on these days:
Monday, April 10  ( 7:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m. )
Wednesday, April 12  ( 7:30 a.m.-6:00 p.m. )
Thursday, April 13  ( 7:30 a.m.-6:00 p.m. )
Friday, April 14  ( 7:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. )
