A Prayer of St. Patrick
Christ be with me,
Christ before me,
Christ behind me,
Christ in me,
Christ beneath me,
Christ above me,
Christ on my right,
Christ on my left,
Christ where I lie,
Christ where I sit,
Christ where I arise,
Christ in the heart of every man who thinks of me,
Christ in the mouth of every man who speaks of me,
Christ in every eye that sees me,
Christ in every ear that hears me,
Salvation is of the Lord.
Get to Know BWHS
Bishop Watterson's curriculum encompasses both depth and breadth to enable our students to discover the strengths and talents God gave them. Here we look at two departments with electives.
Computer Science Electives
BWHS offers seven courses in this department, including Computer Applications, Web Page Design, Computer Programming, Independent Study in Software Applications/Programming, AP Computer Science A, Honors Java and Independent Study in Computer Engineering (becomes Honors Computer Engineering for 2017-18).

Art Electives
Our Art Department offers 19 courses, ranging from Art Fundamentals to Jewelry or Video Production to three AP courses (2D, Drawing, Art History). The curriculum includes graphic design as well as the more traditional drawing and painting, and ceramics, among others.
Catholic War Veterans Speak to Sophomores

Students asked Marine Brian Hall about his various medals. Here, he points to his purple heart medal.  Navy SEAL Ted Mosure reminded students that members of the military lose their lives to protect our freedom.

Several Catholic War Veterans spoke to the sophomore U.S. History classes this month, providing first-hand accounts of what it was like to be in the Vietnam War. We are grateful to Green Beret P.J. Coulter, scout helicopter pilot Bill Edwards, Marine Brian Hall and Navy SEAL Ted Mosure, who spent an entire day at Bishop Watterson speaking the classes.

Fill Up Fridays are Back
For three weeks during Lent groups of juniors and seniors will form teams to collect for local charities. The goal is to Fill Up The Truck! On the designated Friday mornings the teams line up their vehicles in front of the school to collect and see which team brings in the most items for the charity of the week. Each collection week has a theme.

Fill Up #1 on March 10 benefited Holy Family Soup Kitchen and teams chose a theme of Watterson Departments: Social Studies vs. Science vs. English. The collection total was 3,314 non-perishable food items and Team Science won the day.
The next collection is on March 24 for Gilgal House, a non-profit organization which offers safe housing for victims of human trafficking and addiction. Teams with cartoon themes are collecting canned fruit, canned vegetables, canned meat soups, non-perishables and toiletries.
The final collection of the year will be on April 7.
All are welcome to drop off donations at BWHS from 7:30-8:00 a.m. on collection days.
Dance Team Finishes 1st in Competition

Congratulations to the Eaglette Dance Team on a 1st place finish in a competition in Dayton this month! Competing in Small Senior Nova Jazz, they received high superior ratings and a special judges award for not only having a great concept in their first competition but also for their overall positive attitude with and toward the other teams.
Sophomore a Finalist in Voice of the City

Sophomore Mara Ohlin, shown here with Choral Director Christen Joyce has been selected as a finalist in the 2017 Voice of the City competition. She competed in the preliminary round with more than 100 other contestants from Columbus, ages 8-18. Mara is among 30 finalists who will sing at the finals this Saturday, March 18, for a chance to win scholarships and a contract with a talent agency.

Art Class Transforms Cardboard Tube to BWHS-Themed Chemistry Class Prop
Upon its arrival at Bishop Watterson, it was little more than an uninteresting and somewhat average looking mailing tube that evolved into a colorful and cleverly designed chemistry prop.

In early fall, Abbott Laboratories graciously donated surplus laboratory equipment to BishopWatterson's science department. While eyeing some glass tubing for his lab, chemistry instructor Dr. Ralph Nicolosi, couldn't help but  take note of their shipping container as well. Upon first seeing the drab cardboard brown cylinder he immediately visualized its potential to demonstrate combustion variables to his chemistry classes.

Fast forward to a conversation with art teacher Ms. Kim Zacharias. It was unanimous! Tackling the appearance of this frog prince could be a fun project for her department, giving rise to a truly unique "arts and science" venture.

Ms. Zacharias extended the challenge to three of her students and guided their creative forces along the way.  Christina Simmons, Claire Beckman and Talia Livecchi ultimately transformed the recyclable tube into a fun,  Watterson  red and gold, flaming combustion chamber!

LAX Equipment Drive
The boys' lacrosse team is collecting new or used lacrosse gear for Operation Baggataway in the chapel lobby during the week of March 20. The team will be accepting sticks, gloves, helmets, shoulder/elbow pads and lacrosse or soccer cleats. Operation Baggataway is an effort to ensure that U.S. service members, who cannot travel with much baggage, can play lacrosse for recreation while stationed abroad. Recreation options for service members stationed abroad are often limited to sports that require minimal equipment so the Operation Baggataway plan is to build "lacrosse libraries" at bases around the world.
