The NFF has announced the first book, "Mean" Joe Greene: Built By Football, in its Football Matters' "Built By Football" series. The book, which will be available April 3, can be preordered by clicking here.

"Mean" Joe Greene's memoir is a master class in determination, domination and perseverance. For the first time ever, the College and Pro Football Hall of Famer gives readers an unflinching look at his rise from high school bully-victim and bench warmer to University of North Texas legend and Pittsburgh Steelers icon.
Rev. J. Donald Monan, S.J., the 1996 recipient of the NFF Distinguished American Award and 24th president of Boston College, passed away March 18 in Weston, Mass. Born Dec. 31, 1924, in Blasdell, N.Y., he was 92. 

During 24 years as president of Boston College from 1972-96, Fr. Monan steered the school from financial turmoil to a period of unprecedented growth that saw remarkable gains in everything from endowment to academic stature to football ranking.
The NFF Gridiron Club of Dallas Chapter announced that Steve Hatchell, the president & CEO of the National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame, will receive the chapter's 2017 Distinguished Texan Award. Hatchell will accept the honor during the chapter's Ninth Annual Awards Banquet on Sunday, April 2, at 6 p.m. CT at the Dallas/Addison Marriott Quorum by the Galleria.
The NFF experienced another exceptionally successful year in implementing our efforts to demonstrate that Football Matters®, culminating with another sold-out crowd gathering in the Grand Ballroom of the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City on Dec. 6, 2016, for the 59th NFF Annual Awards Dinner.
 
The latest Footballetter is a collection of photos of those honored and those who paid tribute to the honorees by attending the event that night. This issue also features photos from several other National Football Foundation-related events surrounding the 2016 college football season, including the National Hall of Fame Salute at the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl and the CFP National Championship in Tampa, Fla.

2017 College Football Hall of Fame electee Kirk Gibson will speak at Michigan State University's undergraduate convocation on May 5.

2014 NFF John L. Toner Award winner and Duke Vice President and Director of Athletics Kevin White was one of five individuals inducted into the Irish America Hall of Fame.

2016 NFF National Scholar-Athlete Tim Crawley (San Jose State) was named the Arthur Ashe. Jr. Sports Scholar Team winner for football and one of 20 male semifinalists for the overall Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar Award. 


NFF Program Updates

The NFF Scholar-Athlete of the Day, presented by Fidelity Investments, is a daily segment honoring the semifinalists for the 2016  William V. Campbell Trophy, presented by Fidelity Investments. Today's honoree is William & Mary punter  Hunter Windmuller, who boasts a 3.70 GPA in marketing.
Over The Middle
The University of Georgia's Athletic Association is creating an endowment fund for its top sports communications job, known as the Loran Smith Senior Associate Athletic Director for Sports Endowment. The endowment is named in honor of Athens Banner-Herald columnist and author Loran Smith, a 1994 NFF Chapter Leadership Award recipient from the University of Georgia Chapter.

The NFF Orange County (Calif.) Chapter will host its 47th annual scholar-athlete banquet tonight at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, Calif.

The NFF Pasadena/San Gabriel (Calif.) Chapter will hold its scholar-athlete banquet March 21 at the Pasadena Convention Center in Pasadena, Calif.

The NFF Los Angeles Chapter's 54th annual scholar-athlete banquet will take place March 24 at the DoubleTree Hilton in Culver City, Calif.

The NFF Denny/Rutgers Letterwinners (N.J.) Chapter will host its scholar-athlete luncheon March 26 at the Rutgers Recruiting Pavilion in New Brunswick, N.J.

The NFF Tom Lombardo/St. Louis Chapter will host its monthly luncheon on March 29 at Lombardo's restaurant. The guest speaker will be Mel Tjeerdsma, the former head football coach and current athletics director at Northwest Missouri State.

The NFF San Fernando Valley (Calif.) Chapter will hold its scholar-athlete banquet March 30 at Odyssey in Granada Hills, Calif.

The NFF Casey-O'Brien/New Haven (Conn.) Chapter will hold its 57th annual scholar-athlete banquet March 31 at Fantasia in North Haven, Conn. The chapter will honor 27 scholar-athletes among its honorees.

The NFF Jack Grinold/Eastern Massachusetts Chapter will host its annual Coaches Clinic at Boston College on April 1. The event is open to all high school coaches in Massachusetts. Speakers at the clinic will include Trinity (Conn.) defensive coordinator Lewis Acquarulo, Boston College head coach Steve Addazio, Boston College athletics director Brad BatesTufts (Mass.) head coach Jay Civetti, Boston College offensive line coach Justin Frye, Harvard head coach Tim Murphy, Dartmouth defensive backs coach Danny O'Dea and Boston College defensive line coach Paul Pasqualoni. The $18,000 postgraduate scholarships are presented at the NFF Annual Awards Dinner in New York City.
