The Marion Bermuda Race Family
Dear

Our favorite point of feedback from participants in the Marion Bermuda race is one we receive year after year: the enjoyment and sense of community that comes from participating in the Marion Bermuda Race. It extends beyond skippers and crew to the families and friends who join us for celebrations, the members of the sponsor clubs, and the sponsors of the race. Year after year, friends reunite on the starting line and in yacht clubs, ready for another sail to beautiful Bermuda.

With 62 entries and counting for 2017, the family continues to grow. Register Now!

Sponsoring Club Spotlight: Beverly Yacht Club

The Marion Bermuda Race is sponsored by three clubs: the Blue Water Sailing Club, the Royal Hamilton Amateur Dinghy Club, and the Beverly Yacht Club. This newsletter will profile each of the clubs in the time leading up to the 2017 Marion Bermuda Race in June.

The Beverly Yacht Club is the New England base for the Marion Bermuda Race. Tucked at the end of a quaint road in the beautiful town of Marion, Massachusetts, BYC has been a sponsor of the Race since the race's inception in 1977. The history of Beverly goes back much further, to 1872, "by an enthusiastic group of yachtsmen with the sole purpose of promoting racing and good fellowship among its members." (Dan Cooney, BYC Commodore). The BYC has both an active racing scene and a healthy cruising community.

America's Cup Update: The Young Guns

Ahead of the America's Cup Finals, twelve teams of youth sailors will go head to head in the Redbull Youth America's Cup on June 12-16. The top four teams from each pool will advance to the Finals scheduled for June 20-21. The Red Bull Youth America's cup was created to give talented sailors aged 18-24 a career path into sailing. Jimmy Spithill, Oracle Team USA's skipper, describes the regatta as "the gateway for the next generation into the America's Cup. It's essentially what college football is to the NFL - a breeding ground of new talent. And it works."

Family First

Like we mentioned above, the Marion Bermuda community is really like one big family. But, we also take special care to recognize when families come together to do something amazing, like sailing from Massachusetts to Bermuda together. That's why the Marion Bermuda Race has the Beverly Family Trophy, awarded to the first-finishing family-crewed yacht. Read more about this trophy, and other special prizes, here.
