Lenten Sermon Series:
Giving it Up
March 5-April 16, 2017

With the arrival of Lent, the practice of shedding worn out habits  and "taking on" life-giving disciplines is in their place is nothing
new to us.

But Lent is about more than giving up chocolate and Facebook
for 40 days.

  Come and See!

Carol Burgess Johnson
Our New Church Secretary

Carol comes to us with 27 years of secretarial and extensive office experience from ETSU. where in  1992, she won the
ETSU  Distinguished Staff Award.

Having started in an entry-level position at the university, Carol received her certification as a Professional Secretary in 1989 and retired in 2014 as an Office Manager of Continuing Medical Education.

During this time, Carol also earned her B.A in English.

Carol is the mother of 2 daughters, Traci a psychiatric nurse and Cristi, a member of the Christian Folk duo, "Alathea."   Cristi's husband, Justin, coordinates international disaster relief for Catholic Charities.  And Traci's husband, Brian, is a maters level music major and plays the bagpipes.

After some respite with family, friends, writing, visiting the elderly, babysitting, playing with grandchildren ( Emmi,10 and Samuel, 6), Carol said it was time to return to work!
An accomplished musician, Carol is the part-time Pianist at Addilynn UMC
where she is also a member.

We are thrilled to welcome Carol Burgess Johnson as our new part-time secretary at First UMC as of Tuesday, March 28.

Be sure to stop by the office to meet her and introduce yourself!

Leaving a Legacy Through Your Church

When it comes to favorite conversation topics, death & money
are not our top picks.   That's why it is important to talk about both of them while we can!

While many of us may want to bless the church in our death, we may lack creative ways to do so!

HELP IS ON THE WAY!
