2017 OMEGA (Outstanding McPherson Eighth Grade Award) Nominations
Have you noticed an 8th grade student who shows compassion to peers in challenging situations or has courageously overcome struggles to help others?  The neighbor kiddo who pitches in to help or the young volunteer who graciously shares time and talents to help an organization?  How about the one taking the initiative to make positive changes or the role model who is leading by example?  
The McPherson Chamber of Commerce established the OMEGA Award to recognize McPherson County 8th graders for making a difference by their attitude and actions, their leadership qualities and service to their community.  This special OMEGA Award recognition will take place during May Fete activities.  

Please take the opportunity to nominate an eighth grader in McPherson County for this prestigious award.  Find the 2017 OMEGA Nomination form here, or stop by the Chamber office, 306 N. Main.

Register today for the first 5K or 1 mile run/walk in Marquette KS on Saturday, March 25th, hosted by the Agriculture Committee of the McPherson Chamber to fund the Agriculture Future of America scholarship. The plan is to move the run/walk each year to a different McPherson County community to promote the scholarship. Tree City USA- The City of McPherson has been named a 2016 Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation in honor of its commitment to effective urban forest management.  McPherson is celebrating 39 years as a Tree City USA.  McPherson achieved this recognition by meeting the program's 4 requirements: a tree board or department, a tree-care ordinance, an annual community forestry budget of at least $2 per capita & an Arbor Day observance & proclamation.  More information available at arborday.org.  Congratulations McPherson!

National Library Week Design A Bookmark Contest- McPherson Public Library, 214 W. Marlin, invites you to make a bookmark using the National Library Week theme of "Libraries Transform."  No computer generated illustrations.  Entries due to the Library by Monday, April 3 by 8:00 p.m.  Find an entry form on the McPherson Public Library Children's Services Facebook page.

Certified Level IV Trauma Center- McPherson Hospital Emergency Department has been designated as a Level IV Trauma Center by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.  This designation is for rural hospitals whose primary role is to stabilize seriously injured patients and, if necessary, transfer them to a higher level trauma center.  Congratulations McPherson Hospital!

Registration Now Open!  United Way of McPherson County, 306 N. Main, is ready for your Triathlon registrations.  In celebration of the 10th anniversary of the triathlon, they are adding a Junior Triathlon!  It will include a 100 meter swim, 3.5 mile bike ride and .75 mile run.  Cost of the Junior Triathlon is only $25 and includes a free t-shirt.  Find more information on both & register here, or call 620-241-5152.

"Rural Surgery Around the World"- 7:00 p.m. at The Cedars Wellness Center, 1021 Cedars Dr.  Dr. Tyler Hughes was a surgeon in McPherson for 21 years and will present this program about surgery in Thailand and Newfoundland, his recent transition to recruiting and training the next generation of rural surgeons and the need for them. 

Saturday, March 25th
Mac County Round Up- 8:00 a.m. Downtown Marquette.  Sponsored by the McPherson Chamber of Commerce Agriculture Committee to fund an Agriculture Future of America Scholarship for a McPherson County student studying an ag related field.  5K race & 1 mile fun run/walk.  Top 3 male and female 5K finishers will be awarded unique prizes of cuts of meat.  More information and registration
