We did it! Heartland wins 100+ Women Who Care Impact Award!

We're thrilled to be the latest recipient of the 100+ Women Who Care Impact Award. On Monday evening our Founder & Executive Director, Dana, presented at the organization's membership meeting and we were voted to win the award of more than $14,000! We feel so lucky to be a part of this loving and generous community!  Thanks to a wonderful matching donor, we will use the award plus the matching gift to pay for a much-needed $25,000 electrical upgrade in the Animal Barn!
Summer Camp: Enrollment has expanded!

Good news! We've expanded enrollment for our popular summer day camp. We're excited to be able to host more kids out at the farm this year. This summer we're offering 11 week-long sessions of day camp for kids ages 8-13

This year, in addition to time spent up close and personal with our friendly rescued animals, doing animal care chores, and other barn-based activities, we'll also get closer to the land around us. We'll explore the beautiful forests, prairies, and pastures teeming with life outside the barn! Currently we have spaces available for all weeks including our two Animal Ambassador sessions. But we fill up quickly so register today to guarantee your spot!

Register before May 1st and get the early bird discount! Find more information here
Get your tickets for Heartland's Baine's Bash Gala!

Don't forget to get your tickets to Heartland's 7th Annual Gala! This year we are celebrating Baine as our guest of honor and making this year's Gala his party.  This year our goal is to raise $100,000 for our animals and people! Thank you to our generous Presenting Sponsors:

The evening is not your average fundraiser. This year's Gala will include a VIP pre-party with cocktails, hors d'oeuvres and visits from our rescued animals, including Baine the goat himself! Browse our  fantastic silent auction, sit down to a delectable plant-based dinner and enjoy the show! We're also very excited to announce that Ginger Martin from Madison's Magic 98 will be our guest emcee!

This year's silent auction is going online! What does this mean? More convenient bidding (so you can make sure to score the auction item you really want!) plus less waiting at check-out. Make sure to bring your tablet or smartphone so you can get in on the auction action! Don't have one? Don't worry - we'll have bidding assistants available to help!

Feel like hugging a sheep? Kissing a pig? Come take a tour!

Public tours are a great way to learn more about Heartland and meet our farm animal friends! Tours are approximately 75 minutes long and the fee is $10 per person. Registration is required - click here to register. Our next public tours are on April 8th!

Remember that Heartland offers $5 barn tours for Veterans and their family members. And if you are a Stable Supporter donating $20+ per month, public tours are free for you and a guest! Please RSVP for the tour of your choice by emailing [email protected]
NEW volunteer opportunities for spring & summer!

We have two unique volunteer opportunities coming up this spring/summer - can you help?

Volunteer Assistant Camp Counselors Wanted! We are looking for assistant counselors to help at our awesome weekly day camp. If you are 16 or older, able to commit to one or more weeks of 7-8 hour days, and love hanging out with friendly farm animals and kids, please contact Programs Facilitator Stephanie for more information at [email protected]. Assistant counselors spend time helping kids with animal care chores, art/craft projects, games of all sorts, gardening and animal time just to name a few of the responsibilities.

Volunteer Gardeners Needed! If you enjoy spending time in vegetable gardens, Heartland has two that could use your help! We need hands every step of the way, from amending the soil to planting and mulching to watering, weeding, maintaining and harvesting! Your volunteer time could be one time or weekly or anything in between! For more information, please contact Stephanie at [email protected].
Heartland thanks you!
April Volunteer Info Session
Heartland is holding our April Volunteer Information Session on Wednesday, April 26th from 6-7 PM at the Heartland barn. If you've thought about volunteering with us, this is the perfect opportunity to see the barn, meet our animals and see how you can help! Find more information here. RSVPs can be sent to [email protected].
Volunteer of the Month: Chris Bunck
Chris has been volunteering with Heartland for a year and has become a dedicated part of our volunteer family. In addition to doing her regular animal care shift on Thursday mornings, Chris keeps our 70+ rescued animals happy, healthy and full with regular produce deliveries from the Badger Prairie Needs Network. Multiple times each week, Chris drives to the barn to deliver boxes and bags full of fresh fruits and veggies. We and the animals thank you, Chris! Read more...

Thank you, Midwest Vet Dental Services!
Heartland Farm Sanctuary would like to give a huge thank you this month to the staff at Midwest Veterinary Dental Services, especially to Dr. Henry & Dr. Koltz! The Midwest staff has given our sweet dwarf horse, Cookie, the best possible care during her recent dental surgery. Because of Cookie's advanced dental issues, we will be making future visits to the clinic for additional extractions and maintenance. Cookie couldn't be in better hands. Along with providing cutting-edge care, they have given us a generous discount on her extensive bills and have been so personable and kind to work with. All of us at Heartland (especially Cookie!) appreciate Midwest so much!
Thank you, Katie!
This month we want to say thank you to animal care staff member Katie, who leads the Sunday morning shift. Katie is an essential member of our staff. Currently a student at the UW School of Veterinary Medicine, her knowledge and assistance caring for our animals (many who have special needs) is priceless! Her passion for Heartland (and especially for cows Beau and Daisy) is obvious and has even influenced her future career path (read more about this in the link below)! Thank you, Katie, for being such a kind and inspiring part of our team!
