Principal's Message

We just completed the first week of AIR testing. Last week 3rd through 5th grade students took the Language Arts portion. We will continue AIR testing in May.  We will also have MAP testing in May for grades K through 5th. The assessment dates are listed in the Important Dates section of this newsletter. Please continue to get your students to school on time and make sure they are well rested so they can do their best on the tests and finish the school year strong!

A special thank you to parents, teachers, and students for the work you have done this school year to prepare for these high stakes assessments.

Thanks for checking out our newsletter and remember you can follow us on twitter @glendeningelem and check out our website at  gocruisers.org/glendeningelementary_home.aspx

Art and Music Show

On Friday, March 31st the Glendening halls were filled with student artwork and the gymnasium was alive with the sounds of jazz. Thank you to all of the family members who attended this event and to all of the students who helped make the evening a success.

A special thank you goes out to Mrs. Stauffer-Miller and Mrs. Hysell for growing our Glendening talent and for providing an opportunity to share it with the community.

Kindergarten Enrollment

Kindergarten registration began on  April 4th. This year's kindergarteners will be using our new SpeedyStart online registration system. The new system will make things much easier for families who have multiple children and will ensure that all of the required documentation is in place for a smooth start to school.

Kindness is Golden

The Lady Bug and Cricket Clubs at Glendening initiated a program to promote kindness. Students and staff who were caught being kind received a paper gold coin and placed it on the pot of gold on the front window of the school. On Saint Patrick's Day the paper coins magically turned into gold chocolate coins which were delivered back to those who were caught being kind.

Remember to be kind to one another and that small acts of kindness have a large impact.

Walk-a-thon

We are raising money again this year for our art and music classes. The funds this year will be used to support our Artists in the Schools series, provide recorders for all 4th and 5th grade students, assist with the 3rd grade symphony field trip, and help to purchase other art and music supplies as they are needed.

Please help prepare your students for the walk-a-thon on Thursday, April 13th by completing the donation sheet that went home and having students wear comfortable walking shoes the day of the event.

Funds for the event are due April, 11th. Please make checks out to the Glendening PTO.
If you have any questions about the event please contact Mrs. Hysell through Class Dojo or email her at heather.hysell@gocruisers.org

Thank you parents for your ongoing support of the arts!

Growth Mindset Quote

"Intelligence without ambition is a bird without wings."

Here at Glendening we feel it is important to have a growth mindset. We will share inspirational quotes to keep us focused on reaching higher levels of achievement.

What is a growth mindset? "In a growth mindset, people believe that their most basic abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work-brains and talent are just the starting point. This view creates a love of learning and a resilience that is essential for great accomplishment," Carol Dweck.
