Spring arrives today. We are fortunate in southern Utah to have an early Spring most years. The fruit trees are blooming, the Spring break visitors are appearing en masse, and the air is warm and inviting. I realize that may not be happening yet in your area, but I bet the longer evenings are making you feel the stirrings of Spring. Just the past few days I have felt a sense of new beginning and a desire to shake things up a bit in my life, which is the real gift that Spring brings. To help you kickstart this process, I have included directions below for how to create your very own Spring Joy Selection sheet. I would love to see what you create and how you are embracing this season of fresh starts!

Resources
  • Don't fear failure so much that you refuse to try new things. The saddest summary of a life contains three  descriptions: could have, might have, and should have.  - Louis E. Boone
  • Aging is an extraordinary process where you become the person you always should have been. - David Bowie
  • Love this article about giving up anger and striving for perfectionism, and instead embracing joy. Thanks to Kathy for sharing it with me.
  • Shel Silverstein was a much celebrated poet, cartoonist, and children's author. He carefully crafted each of his works, not wasting a single letter or adding anything unnecessary. For a child, Shel's skillful use of the English language painted vivid pictures in their imaginations with his deliciously descriptive rhythms and rhymes. As an adult, you'll be able to better appreciate the depth and meaning he weaves into his work and the lessons we can all learn from them.

  • This beautiful version of John Lennon's song, Imagine, by the acapella group Pentatonix will remind you that we are all connected as humans.

Your Spring Joy Plan

I am a big believer in allowing the seasons to guide our joy. What feels good and nourishes us will change every few months. Humans have been adapting and adjusting to the change of the seasons for thousands of year. It is part of our DNA - we are wired to follow the seasons. The challenge is that in our fast-paced lives we may not notice or embrace the power of these seasonal changes.

To help you enter into the Spring season fully and consciously, I urge you to use my Spring Joy Selection Sheet. You can find it at my website - just click here. It is a PDF file that you can print. Find a comforting and relaxing place to visit for 30 minutes and think about what you are excited to do, have, and experience in the next three months. What rituals do you love to honor for Spring Break, Easter, or Passover? What end of school activites warm your heart? Which foods do you long to eat that Mother Nature provides so abundantly this time of year? Are there any activiies you enjoy doing outside this time of year?

Pick 3-5 of your favorite items to write down on your Spring Joy Selection Sheet. Now, a word of caution. These are not things you think you should do. These are things you want to do, that make you feel good, and make your heart sing. Post this sheet someplace where you will see it often to remind you to weave these things into your life. I post mine on my office bulletin board. At first my husband thought it was kind of odd, but now he loves to create his sheet and post it next to mine.

Below you will find my Spring Joy Selection Sheet I just created for this year. As you can see, it is not too complicated or long. I am excited about these choices, and I even left some room at the bottom to add a couple more items if I am so moved.

One of my items is going to stretch me a bit. I have been working on a fiction book with my husband for several years. The manuscript is close to being finished and we are committed to giving it an hour a day first thing in the morning to get it polished and ready to share. We are both feeling a bit nervous and scared about what will happen next. But we are ready for whatever may come. I think the Spring burst of energy is a good time of year to pursue a stretch goal. Perhaps you want to add one to your list. Let me know if you do - I would love to offer encouragement and assitance!

Workshop - April 29th @Red Mtn Resort

My next live workshop will be on Saturday, April 29th, from 9 am to noon. It will be held in the Snow Canyon Room at Red Mountain Resort. The topic will be Spring Cleaning: Clear Out Worry and Other Energy Drains.  Based on the feedback from my last workshop, I am going to make this three hours instead of two and I will offer a light breakfast with coffee and tea. The cost is $50 and you can take advantage of a delightful day spa service afterward at Red Mountain Resort and/or the Kayenta Street Painting Festival.  Make it a full day of joy and self-care!

Let me know if you will be able to join us. You can respond to this email or give me a call at 435-632-3311. I need to know by April 24th.
