IISE Wichita Professional Chapter unveils new banner!

Officers from the IISE Wichita Professional Chapter were invited to participate in a mini-fair prior to the annual dinner meeting of the Wichita Council of Engineering Societies. The event brought together the local professional and student engineering societies to honor Engineers' Week in Kansas. The IISE Wichita Professional Chapter used this event to unveil their new chapter banner. There was considerable interest in the IISE table by those attending the meeting. The chapter officers provided information about IISE and pointed perspective members to the IISE website for details about membership. After the mini-fair, IISE members attended the all-society dinner with a presentation by Barbara Wendling of Mercedes-Benz Research and Development North America on Deployment of Automated Driving Vehicle Technology.

Is that a fact?  Golf is the only sport that has been played on the moon.
What students want to know ...

QuestionShould I let my boss beat me at golf?

Answer T hink about golf as another project, task, or proving ground where your boss could be measuring your performance.  More important than the scores is the value you can create for yourself in the round by learning from and about your boss, better understanding what drives him/her, how you fit and are perceived, and maximizing the exposure you are having by spending 4-5 hours with your boss.  Focused time like that doesn't
come often, so it's a good idea to think through development and project conversations that may fit into the round.  It's also important to properly feel out your boss to make sure they don't mind having some 'office talk' on the golf course. It's also important to understand the rules and etiquette of the game and make sure you don't embarrass yourself. Lastly, don't visit the adult beverage cart too often and definitely don't out drink your boss on the golf course.

Networking Tip:  Touch base frequently (regardless of your need for a favor) with thank-you cards, follow-up phone calls, e-mails, and accomplishment clippings.
