Ballare Teatro Performing Arts Center Newsletter |
Spring has sprung-well, it is attempting to, anyway. Regardless, we are springing in to recital prep! Now that spring break has ended (I hope you all had a great break!), I want to really stress the importance of perfect attendance for all our students. We only have a few weeks left to get dances finished, polished and ready for the stage. When dancers miss class it makes it difficult to progress. Make every effort to be there. If you can't be there because of fever, or a graded/school event, please e-mail me at [email protected], or call the studio to let us know. That way teachers can plan class around the dancer's absence. It is time to register for summer classes! We have lots to offer, camps and classes, something to fit into your busy summer schedule. Families in levels II and III, double check that you have informed us which Audition Workshop in which you will be participating. Lastly, if you are in levels II-V, we will be offering weekly technique classes so you can keep your skills up over the summer. You should have received an e-mail survey from the studio. Please respond so we can make sure to offer the classes when we have the most dancers available. This will be offered in like we do adult classes. Dancers can buy a class card that they can use in any class that works for them! Lastly, we are looking for volunteers for the recital. Please e-mail me or let Mia or Brigham know at the desk and they will make sure you are assigned a task. The show can't go on without lots of volunteer help! Thanks so much! Ann |

Getting Ready for our Close Up... Picture Day!
Picture Day will be Sunday, May 21st, 2017
Calabay Productions will be taking Ballare Teatro's picture again, and this year we will be doing the best of both worlds; shots of each dancer dancing and a classroom posed photo.
Calabay Productions takes a different approach to dance studio photography. In addition to the posed photographs, we take photographs of the students actually dancing. Teachers and parents will love to see their child moving across the floor and enjoying the art of dance.
What to expect on The Big Day:
Photographs will be taken in two separate studios.
1.) Dancers start out in their recital costume. Creative dancers will get their picture taken in what they wear to class in both studios.
- Once the entire class is ready, we will take individual portraits of each dancer.
- Finally, after all the portraits are taken, students will take a group photo.
2.) After the recital costumes photographs, students will change into their dance clothes for action photographs.
- Dancers visit the "action" studio to get their photograph taken as they move across the floor.
- The schedule will allow about 10-15 minutes for the students to change and get ready for their action shots.
5.) After about 5-10 minutes, students can view their action shots, portraits and group shots on several kiosks. Discounts will be offered for ordering the day of the shoot.

Food First with Nutrition Julie
By Julie McMahon, CHHC
One thing I hear often from people is how hard it is to keep fresh produce in the house and use it before it spoils. We've all had that moment where we open the crisper drawer in the refrigerator, only to find a less than desirable fruit or vegetable that has to be tossed instead of enjoyed. The solution isn't to buy less produce, instead the solution is to find more ways to use that produce when it comes into your house. Here are three fun ways to use a fresh lovely pineapple!
Pineapple Salsa - Fresh and wonderful on top of fish or chicken!
1 small red onion thinly sliced
½ pineapple, peeled, cored and cut into ½" cubes
1 small sweet red pepper, cored, seeded and finely chopped
2 T minced fresh cilantro
1 T lime juice
½ tsp honey
¼ tsp salt
**Put all ingredients in a bowl together, cover and refrigerate for one hour to let the flavors blend. My family loves this on top of swordfish, tuna steaks, tilapia and chicken.
Tropical Vacation Smoothie - Without ever leaving your kitchen!
2 handfuls of spinach, kale or chard
1 ½ cups fresh pineapple (about ¼ of a pineapple)
1 banana
½ cup coconut milk
1 tsp coconut oil
**Place all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. Additional water can be added to reach desired consistency.
Whipped Pineapple Pops
1 whole pineapple
Juice of 1 lime
1 ½ cups coconut milk
**Blend together and pour into popsicle molds. Freeze and enjoy! I have done this with strawberries and almond milk as well and they are fabulous!
