- Calling all ultra runners, team runners, fast, slow, average, all runners -
Brew to Brew is just TWO weeks away!
Don't miss Kansas City's most expansive party! Brew to Brew covers 44(ish) miles Kansas City to Lawrence. This team relay or solo (for the running gluttons out there) was voted one of the best beer races in the US by Runners World. It is also the largest annual fundraiser for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation!
An after party awaits you with food, beer (duh) and fun!

My story: By January 2016 I had lost 100 pounds over the previous 2 years, and I knew I needed something new to keep me going. I thought about what was one thing I never thought I could do, and it dawned on me that I wanted to try running. In February, I attempted to do a half marathon on a treadmill but became sick. After that, I would do a couple of virtual 5K's on the treadmill at Planet Fitness. I wouldn't become seriously interested in running until July 4th weekend. I ran my 1st 10K that Saturday, then a 5K the following Monday. I was hooked! That weekend I decided to train for my first half marathon. It was when I started training for my half marathon that I fell into my love/hate relationship with running. I did my first half marathon in October and two weeks later completed my first marathon at Gobbler Grind.
After my marathon I dabbled with running, but something was holding me down more than other runners. I am a runner with fibromyalgia. Fibromyalgia is a chronic widespread pain disorder. Fibromyalgia consists of constant pain, sleep, memory, and mood issues on top of 60 other symptoms that can present themselves in different situations. I also developed a second condition due to fibromyalgia called costochondritis which is the inflammation in the joints between the cartilages that join the ribs to the breastbone, sometimes causing the ribs to separate from the breastbone. Even though running can amplify these conditions and cause heart attack like pain, I have still decided to keep going. I take the good days with the bad days, pushing through pain and taking walk breaks when needed. In January 2017, I ran my second half marathon (the Hangover Half), and I am preparing for my third half in May, the Independence Half. I am also considering training and running a 50K within the next 2 years. It has been a slow start to the year after finding a new love of running, but I know that even with the struggle of more intense pain, I will find my balance and be running weekly again.
