Humans of Habitat Mahoning Valley
Meet Corriander Ferenchak!

Similar to the Humans of New York project,  Humans of Habitat Mahoning Valley
will feature stories of the homeowners, families, volunteers and staff that make the Habitat mission possible in the Valley. This month's Humans of Habitat Mahoning Valley story features ReStore Employee Corriander Ferenchak:

"What makes me smile? The short answer is helping people and my two beautiful daughters."

"I've had my own struggles through poverty and being a single mom. I wouldn't be where I am today if others hadn't helped me and believed in me. It gives me great joy from the deepest parts of my soul to return that help, support, and belief to others. I smile when I'm able to help people find the household ite ms that they need and couldn't otherwise afford. I smile when I think about how that will help us build more houses so that we can work towards a world where everyone has a decent place to live. I smile because I know I'm part of something bigger that will help the greater good.

When I first walked into the office of Habitat for Humanity of Mahoning Valley almost 3 years ago I looked around before my interview and said to myself, "I can see a future here. I believe in our mission and look forward to many years of bringing people together to build homes, communities, hope and of course smiles."

Wonder Women Build 2017
Build like a girl!

Annually and nationwide, Habitat for Humanity - in partnership with Lowe's - hosts Women Build. This year, Habitat for Humanity of Mahoning Valley has themed Women Build around the idea that every woman is a Wonder Woman!

No experience is necessary to participate on-site. Volunteers work under the guidance of construction professionals, and alongside other volunteers and future homeowners.

Of course, there are more ways to participate in Wonder Women Build than the construction site! Below is information about volunteering on the construction site as well as other events and activities. AmeriCorps Week
#AmeriCorpsWorks

AmeriCorps is a national service-based program and is part of the Corporation for National & Community Service.  It supports a wide range of local service programs  that engage thousands of Americans in intensive community service each year. Habitat for Humanity is one program that relies on its AmeriCorps members to build affordable, decent housing.

This year, HFHMV recognized its AmeriCorps members, Ruth Patton and Leah Sakacs, during AmeriCorps week, March 6-10th. Both will be continuing their service in the Valley through July, and we hope they will join us for another year! Learn more about Ruth and Leah by visiting the HFHMV website!

AmeriCorps programs do more than move communities forward; they serve their members by creating jobs and providing pathways to opportunity for young people entering the workforce. AmeriCorps places thousands of young adults into intensive service positions where they learn valuable work skills, earn money for education, and develop an appreciation for citizenship. If you are interested in engaging in your community and serving Habitat for Humanity, you can learn more at the national service website.
