Dog Bounces Back After Difficult Surgery

Giant Bladder Stone Can't Crush Dog's Spirit

Davis came to us covered in urine and in obvious pain; he was an incredibly friendly boy who we knew needed our help. Palpation of his bladder revealed something hard distending his bladder. We weren't certain how many, but it was obvious that Davis had bladder stones. Surgery proved tricky as the team realized that it was not many stones, but one huge stone that was causing Davis the pain and difficulty with urination.

"The incision needed to be much larger than expected once we realized that Davis had only one large stone," explains Dr. Emily Bewley, KHS shelter veterinarian.

As difficult as the surgery had to be on the poor dog, Davis was obviously relieved to have this stone removed. He rewarded the team with kisses and a wagging tail. Now he is in foster to allow his incision and bladder to heal.

Join Team Tiny Toes!

The  Kentucky Humane Society  has started a new super-volunteer team called Team Tiny Toes. Members of this elite group are taught how to care for bottle babies, kittens and occasional puppies who come to KHS too young to eat on their own. These tiny babies will die without round-the-clock care, and our elite team of volunteers are the ones who will help us care for them. Are you interested in being a part of the team? Email Kayla at foster@kyhumane.org for more information and to start your super-journey.

Healthy Pets Clinic Open 5 Days a Week

Our Healthy Pets Clinic is open at the Sam Swope Treatment & Lifesaving Center, 241 Steedly Drive (formerly our Main Campus) Tuesday through Saturday from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. The clinic offers low-cost vaccines, preventatives, diagnostics and treatment of minor medical issues.

No appointments are necessary. Saturdays are our busiest day, so long waits may be possible on that day. We encourage those who can to use the clinic during the week for more prompt service. We want to thank PetSmart Charities for the generous grant that helped fund the Healthy Pets Clinic.
