Postulants during JPIC class:

"The best contribution we can give to our society is education, but the defect of education is when we cease to embrace the wisdom of God." Andre Beltran (SB)

Left to right: Andre, Thomas, Michael, Tony, Mark, John Gutierrez OFM
         (Postulant Director)
"Right relations with the Creator comes from striving for right relation with the created."
     T homas Dotterweich(SH)

"The spirit of the Franciscan order is to be in communion with all of the created world -- a world that has been given to us, not only as  a source of resources but one of pleasures and blessings both grand and simplistic -- and in that sense the work of the JPIC is fundamentally important, because the goal of this particular office is to remind us of that call. The call to right relationships with one anther, with nature and above all else, with God."
                                                                                    Michael Lomas (SB)

" My decision to discern the Franciscan way of life was largely influenced by Francis' own inclination to actively live out the Gospel values on which JPIC   bases its foundation."                                                     Tony Luevano (SB)

Dakota Access Pipeline

The CEO of Wells Fargo bank recently said: "my number one priority is rebuilding trust."  But it's hard to trust a company that not only deceives its customers but publicly claims it's committed to addressing climate change and protecting human rights while backing the Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL).  Actions speak louder than words.

Take action: Tell Wells Fargo to divest from the dangerous Dakota Access Pipeline:
  • If you are a Wells Fargo customer, go here to send a customized letter
  • If you are not a Wells Fargo Customer, go here to send a letter
The Dakota Access Pipeline tramples on the rights of Native Americans by eschewing their clearly stated concerns and putting corporate polluter's interests above Tribal treaty rights and access to clean water. The pipeline was originally proposed to cross the Missouri River just above Bismarck, ND, but after concerns from that community, it was rerouted to cross the river along sacred Tribal grounds, less than a mile from the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation, where a spill would pose a serious threat to the Tribe's sole source of drinking water.

Tohono O'odham Nation Opposes Border Wall

Ponchie Vasquez OFM, from the St. Barbara Province mission in Arizona, sent us this video to post. The Tohono O'odham have no word in their language for "wall."
