PVPSS Summer School Information

The Palos Verdes Peninsula Summer School (PVPSS) high school program will once again be available for all students entering 9th through 12th grade in the fall. The program will take place on the Palos Verdes High School campus beginning June 19 through July 7 (1st semester) and July 10 through July 27 (2nd semester.)

Online registration will begin at 7:00 pm on each of the following nights:
  • Tuesday, March 28, for incoming Seniors
  • Wednesday, March 29, for incoming Juniors
  • Thursday, March 30, for incoming Sophomores
  • Monday, April 17, for incoming Freshman

All courses offered, either for enrichment or recovery, are "UC approved" and meet the stringent requirements of PVPUSD toward high school graduation and college pre-requisite credit. Speak to your counselor regarding specifics.

There is limited space available and enrollment is on a "first come, first serve" basis. Visit our website at www.pvpss.com to get an advanced look at the list of course offerings and teacher assignments.

Note the limited online offerings available this year. Students are eligible to register for an online class, and are also eligible to enroll in the PVPSS on site summer program. Strong discretion is advised in considering enrollment in either or both, as content is quite rigorous.

MUSICAL HIT 'PIPPIN' SET TO TAKE THE STAGE AT PV HIGH

One of the most-performed and beloved musicals in theater history, PIPPIN, will be presented by the Palos Verdes High School Drama Department for eight performances April 14-23. Heir to the Frankish thrown, the young prince Pippin is in search of the secret to true happiness and fulfillment. He seeks it in the glories of the battlefield, the temptations of the flesh, and the intrigues of political power. In the end, though, Pippin finds that happiness lies not in the extraordinary endeavors, but rather in the un-extraordinary moments that happen every day. With an unforgettable score from the four-time Grammy-winner, three-time Oscar-winner, and musical theatre giant Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, Godspell, Children of Eden), PIPPIN promises to entertain.
Performances are April 14-15 and 21-22 at 7:00pm, April 15, 22-23 at 2:00pm, and April 20 at 3:30pm in the MPR at Palos Verdes High School, 600 Cloyden Road in Palos Verdes Estates.
The production is recommended for ages 13 and over.
Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for students.  Tickets can be purchased at www.pvhsdrama.com or at the door if seats are still available. For further information, visit the website, or call (310) 378-8471, ext. 237

Boys Golf:
It was an exciting week for our Golf team culminating with the Shark Invitational in Corona on Friday. The tournament field had 24 teams from Southern California and PV won by a total of 13 shots! Congratulations to our Golf team!

Girls Lacrosse:
Girls Lacrosse was in action this week with a home game against Chadwick. PV got out to an early lead and held on for the 20-12 win. PV is now 5-2 on the season with a game at Agoura HS on Monday!

Track and Field:
The Track and Field team was busy this week with two track meets. On Thursday, PV took on Redondo Union and Morningside. Both the boys and girls teams defeated Morningside and lost to Redondo. The teams are now both 2-2 in Bay League competition with the dual meet against Peninsula remaining.

On Saturday the distance runners traveled to Azusa Pacific University for the annual Distance Meet of Champions. Amongst the great performances, Ian Irish's 800m (half mile) performance stood out the most. Ian's time of 1:55.18 is a new school record and is the fastest time in all divisions of the Southern Section by a junior this year (3rd fastest overall).

Boys Lacrosse:
The Boys Lacrosse team racked up two big victories this week. First came a 15-3 win over local rival Peninsula HS. The team filled that with an 8-3 home victory over traditional lacrosse power Foothill HS. Great job boys!

The team tallied a 3-0 win over North Torrance before taking down both JW North and Buena in early rounds of tournament action. The team will have a busy week ahead in the annual Lions Tournament.
Softball:
After a rainout on Tuesday, the Softball team challenged South Torrance on Thursday. The Spartans came away with the victory 14-3. On Monday, PV will travel to Marine League power Banning HS before Bay League play begins.

Boys Tennis:
It was a very busy week for the Sea Kings on the tennis courts. PV defeated Inglewood and Torrance HS this week before dropping a match to Mira Costa by a score of 11-7. In another busy week, PV will take on Inglewood, Morningside, and Redondo Union in three key Bay League matches.
Swim :
The Swim team was in action this week with the South Bay Invitational hosted at Mira Costa HS. The meet spanned three days and several Sea Kings had good marks and advanced to the finals. A big meet with Bay League competitors Redondo Union looms ahead this week!

Booster Club:

PVHS Arts, Academics, and Athletic Programs:  Improved Dance Facilities Fundraiser 2017

Let's come together as a community! Four hundred PVHS students, including those in Choreo, Song, Cheer, Intermediate Dance, Musical Theater, Drama, Jazz Band, Color Guard, Yoga, P.E. Dance, school clubs, and various academic programs utilize the dance facilities every day for training, preparation, and education. Rehearsals for pep rallies, shows, sports, and theatrical productions are also held in the dance facilities.

PVHS requires updated, properly sprung dance floors to ensure a safe and appropriate training environment. The sprung floors will help decrease injuries resulting from the poor condition of our existing floors which were installed in 1961. The estimated cost to upgrade the facilities is $60,000.00 and our goal is to complete this project no later than July 2017.

The PVHS Booster Club has generously contributed $12,500.00 with an additional $30,000.00 from the District and School Site Funds. $2,500.00 has been raised to date, and an additional $15,000.00 must still be raised to support this project. To reach our fundraising goal, we would appreciate $100.00 or more per family, but any donation will make a difference. Thank you for making great things happen at PVHS!
