Farhadi, Kiarostami & Child Foundation

Dear Friends,

As we prepare for Nowruz, we are also celebrating a second win at the Academy Awards for Mr. Asghar Farhadi.
Mr. Farhadi and his family have been long time supporters of Child Foundation and we cannot be happier for both him and Iranian Cinema for this major achievement.
It is ironic that we have been working on celebrating the life of another superior film director and a mentor to all filmmakers around the world, Abbas Kiarostami, by creating an educational scholarship in his name. Please see more info about this scholarship in this newsletter.
I am also heading Geneva to attend the 34th session of the Human Rights Council. This year, Child Foundation submitted three statements that have been accepted as working documents for the UN general assembly on " malnutrition of children in Yemen" ,  " adverse consequences of sanctions" and  " Education rights of children".
On the side of Council's meetings, Child Foundation has organized a very interesting panel discussion in Geneva at the UN headquarters on Friday, March 10 at 11 AM with speakers such as Lucio Melandri, UNICEF's Senior Emergency Manager Refugee & Migrant, and Ms. Sarah Crowe, UNICEF Spokesperson for Geneva Crisis Cell Leading communication on the Refugee and Migrant Crisis.
If you would like to attend this event in person, please let us know so we can send you an invitation.
These and many other activities that we do are to help the children in need. As they say  " a journey of a thousand miles begins with one step," so changing thousands of children's lives starts with one. I hope you join us in changing the world, one child at a time. To do so, please visit our sponsorship page.

Abbas Kiarostami Scholarship
Abbas Kiarostami was perhaps the most famous Iranian filmmaker whose life sadly ended in July of 2016. He began his artistic work by illustrating children's' book. Later, in the early 70's, he helped found a film-making department at the Institute for the Intellectual Development of Children and Young Adults in Tehran. It was there that he made several short films aimed at, and about, children.

In honor of Abbas Kiarostami's work on the subject of children, Child Foundation had created Kiarostami's Educational Scholarship in collaboration with his family. We will start with 100 children in need who will receive this scholarship and will continue to increase this number as more donors participate.

To be part of this educational movement, please choose any child in our sponsorship page and let us know an amount for your monthly contribution. We make sure he/she receives your monthly donation, and in return you receive a biannual report on how your contribution changes your sponsored child's life.

We hope that this scholarship program inspires students to follow on Abbas Kiarostami's footsteps.
Nowruz &
Eidi
Nowruz is a time of the renewal of the nature, and also the time when we put winter blues behind us and start afresh, clean our homes and put on our new spring clothes.
However, we know that many are not so blessed. Many children and youngsters can only dream of new clothes and shoes. Many mothers work tirelessly but still can't make ends meet. Many young victims of poverty, are child laborers who support their families from a young age and are deprived of education.
Nowruz is the time for being joyful and bringing joy to others. It is the time for giving a helping hand to those who are less fortunate.  It is the time to relieve the burden of a child in pain. Child Foundation is honored to be the vehicle for your generosity and giving.
We are proud to provide you with the opportunity to share love, kindness and blessings with those in need. To participate in purchasing eidi please visit our Nowruz page.

from Boston, with Love!
Our sponsor Maryam in Boston purchased a TV for Mahla who lives Jiroft.

Mahla's father was a victim of an accident a few years ago which sent him into coma for a year and half.

Although he is out of coma now but he is paralyzed and needs constant nursing. A new TV had helped everyone in the hose in these hard times.
