STUDENT SAFETY AT MILTON
I want to address the situations that occurred at Milton last week and assure you, again, that there is
no threat against our school. The circumstances that surround an inappropriate video and
the
RUMORED
threat against the school are still being investigated by school administration and law enforcement.
Please use this opportunity to talk with your student about the seriousness of capturing, sending and receiving inappropriate material/content.
Students should know that possessing this video or sharing it with others may result in disciplinary action and/or criminal charges if appropriate. We take the safety and well being of our students seriously and will take all actions to protect their privacy.
Please do not hesitate to contact me or anyone else on the administrative team if you have any questions or concerns.
Thank you,
Brian Jones

TEACHER & PROFESSIONAL OF THE YEAR
We are proud to announce Milton's Teacher and Professional of the Year. Mr. Drew Bowers is our Teacher of the Year and Mr. Tim Tran is our Professional of the Year.
Congratulations to Mr. Tim Tran for being named Professional Employee of the Year. Mr. Tran is knowledgeable, professional, competent, willing and able to handle all technology issues without ever getting flustered, discombobulated, ruffled, or stressed. He maintains a cool, calm exterior in all situations, no matter how dire. He has the capability necessary to handle all technology challenges and if he doesn't for some reason, he knows who to ask for answers. He takes the time to work with anyone personally, if that is called for. More importantly, his calm has the effect of calming others around him who may have approached him in deep despair or with a high level of frustration. Tim Tran has the admirable ability to reassure and empower anyone. He is so personable and friendly; this means he never makes anyone feel like a tech issue is silly or a tech question is ignorant. He is approachable and makes himself available at all times. And he is able to explain things clearly and coherently. |
It is an honor to announce the Milton High School Teacher of the Year, Mr. Drew Bowers, who serves as the Director of Choral Music. For the last ten years, he has provided a home for students who are able to develop and find their voice within a family of various performing groups. His leadership has guided students to receive countless awards and perform for the local community, colleges throughout Georgia, the Atlanta Braves, Disney, Carnegie Hall, European Choir Tour, among others. His dedication to his craft is evident in all that he does. Mr. Bower's students learn the importance of a strong work ethic while they refine their individual parts in creating a unified whole. Their diligence is rewarded with ongoing support that Mr. Bowers gives them while helping them on their unique path and career options. Within the school, Mr. Bowers also serves as Fine Arts Co- Department Chair where assists in school leadership and in bringing the arts to all student's educational experience. Mr. Bowers joins the ranks of many exemplary teachers who have been awarded this honor, and he will continue to serve the Milton community with heart and leadership.

STUDENT GROWTH INFORMATION
PARENTS/GUARDIANS:
Your student will receive his/her
Georgia Student Growth Model (GSGM) Report on Monday, March 27 during HOMEROOM. Please read the statement below explaining the GSGM Report.
We are pleased to provide you with your student's GSGM Report that provides information on your student's academic progress during the 2015-2016 school year. Georgia's growth model has been in place for several years and, as educators, we have been taking advantage of this information to improve your student's educational experience. This report represents yet another way in which Georgia is seeking to improve the level of student achievement across our state.
This report will provide you with Student Growth Percentiles (SGPs) for your student. Benefits of the SGPs:
- Describes how much academic progress your student made relative to academically similar students
- Allows for an apples - to apples comparison on how much growth your student demonstrated, relative to other students who started in the same place
- All students have the ability to demonstrate all levels of growth - for both low and high achieving students
There are several resources available to assist you with understanding these new reports. On
gsgm.gadoe.org you will find sample Georgia Milestones EOG and EOC student growth reports and a video to assist you with interpreting these reports. There is also an animated introduction to SGP video. Finally, you can view school- and district-level SGP results at
gastudentgrowth.gadoe.org.
Again, we are excited to be able to provide you with this new resource. Our school and teachers look forward to working with you and your student to use this new growth information, in addition to other academic information about your student, to provide an enriching and engaging learning experience.
Sincerely,
Marvin Fullilove
